Evening all,

Greenwood Cup . A full weekend of golf at Napier last week proved to be a big challenge for our team. A very strong Hastings team ( eventual winners) dealt our team a heafty blow on Satuday morning. The team regrouped for a five and a half, four and a half loss against Maraenui Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning, we went down 6 / 4 to Onga Onga, and in the afternoon a loss to Karamu six and a half to three and a half.. At the end of the weekend, Hastings were overall winners with 11 points and 53 games, ahead of Maraenui, Napier and Onga Onga on 8 points, then came Dannevirke with 6, HB Golf 5, Karamu 4 and Waipukurau 1. I beleive a number of our team suffer from lack of golf, as they are family men, and do not get to play the amount of golf the city team members do. Dannevirke host round 1-3 next year, Waipukurau Club have ceased to exist as a singular team, and will be playing next year under the CHB banner with players drawn from Waipukurau, Waipawa and Porongahau. Thanks to our team memebers, selector Richie Gray, caddies and supporters for for your efforts this year. Onwards and upwards.

Annual General Meeting. A smaller than normal number of members attending the AGM on Monday night. Secretary / Treasurer Miranda Hobbs presented a solid set of accounts, with a $25,506 surplus. Bank and investment reserves have been maintained with balances similar to last year. One note being the Grant for the roof repair is in this years income, but the account for the work will be in next years expenditure. We remain indebted to both The Infinity Foundation $45,101, and Pub Charity $17,308 for their continued support of our club with their Grants. Thanks to our sub committee for their efforts in obtaining these Grants. With the retirement of President Brendan Poole and myself the following persons have taken office for 2019. President Tony Peeti, Vice Presidents Vaughan Hales, and Peter Greatbatch. Club Captain Mike Matthews Ladies Captain Margaret Stephenson Match Committee Zane Gregory Willie Veitch Richie Gray, Timmy Bell, Ray Ward, Doug Lochead, Stephen Paewai and Margaret Stephenson, House Committee, James Walker, Bazil Mott, Peter Drummond, Dipak Makan, Bernie Williams and Stephen Paewai. Greens Committee James Walker, Roger Ransom and Vaughan Hales. Farm Committee Gavin Henricksen, Max Charmley, Roger Ransom and James Walker Wishing all committee members a favourable and fulfilling year.

On Course Tee Signs: A big shout-out to our tee sponsors for their continued support of our Club. With business changes, we have 5 tee signs available for advertising your business. If any member wishes to take up one of these signs, please contact our Secretary Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz. Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December. Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees. Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM. At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf. Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures. Travel safely and play well. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Saturday 18th October; Club day. Card draw at 11.15am tee off 11.30am Duty House Tony Saturday 8th November; Closing day and Trophy presentations. Saturday 29th November; (Date Change) Fielding Interclub @ Feilding. Ladies Club Championships; The ladies concluded their Champions on Saturday after being rained, hailed and thundered on the week before. Congratulations , too Margaret Stephenson, (Senior) Sue Burlace (Intermediate) and Kerrie Gundersen (Junior). Runners up being , Angela Farrell, Margaret Treacy and Rainier Arnold. Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3; Conditions at Waipukurau Golf Club were very pleasant for two rounds of golf Saturday and one Sunday. The rough at Waipukurau has for years has been dense clover and still is, which can be deceiving, as the ball looks ok, but the clover can be difficult to hit from. Saturday morning the team played Karamu having a 7 to 3 win, followed in the afternoon with an 8.5 to 1.5 win against Central Hawkes Bay. Sunday morning we came up against the first of the city Clubs Napier, and were defeated 7 to 3. Two matches concluded with draws on the 18th, and 3 finished on the 17th, so it wasn't all bad. The current standings are Hastings first on 6 points with 27.5 games, Onga Onga second also on 6 points and 23 games, Napier third with 4 points and 20 games, with Dannevirke fourth on 4 points and 18.5 games. Looking forward to the final four rounds at Hastings Golf Club on November 15th & 16th . Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December at 7.30pm. A reminder to Committee chairman and others to have your reports to Gail by next weekend (Labour Weekend) for the Annual Report. With daylight saving now in progress, encourage any friends or relatives that are keen to maybe consider a Summer Subscription.
