Saturday 3rd August; SHB 27 Hole Strokeplay Tournament. (Ruahine Rosebowl) 8am Cuppa, 8.30am Tee Off $30 Entry fee includes, competition, twos and lunch. Please bring a plate for the shared tea, which is a vote of thanks to our country clubs for the hospitality we receive when visiting their Tournaments. Adam Webster is on board again this year with his Lion Sponsorship, so please take the time to thank Adam for his support of our Tournament.
Saturday 17th August; Lui Paewai Trophy. Best Stableford on the day from all players. A spectacular trophy, well worth getting your name on this one.
Club News:
Greenkeeper; A name well known to many in the golfing circles. A G (Anthony) Little is coming on board as an assistant to Kieran. Anthony has vast experience, and will assist Kieran complete his apprenticeship, as well as pass on his years of experience. Welcome AG to our staff.
Trundler Shed: With the new door on the shed comes a new lock. It appears some members are having a degree of difficulty with the lock but Peter Greatbatch asked me to convey this message. The lock is electronic, so when the numbers are entered the barrels have to spin around to allow the door to open. After entering the numbers, watch the lock until the green light goes out, Now the door will open. If you try while the light is on, it won't open. Patience people!
Ladies; Last Wed 24th July we held a very successful “Toast to Life Members” where past and present lady members were invited to a luncheon at the clubhouse. We also helped Edith Martin celebrate her 95th birthday with cake, flowers and punch. This event was organised superbly by Jad Suttor and Gail Borlase and all current lady golfers provided the lunch and decorated the dining area. Twin sets and pearls in evidence, along with waitresses attired appropriately and a sing along on the piano accompanied by Elaine the Piano Lady dressed as Elton all made for a great affair.
We have our last Pennants on Monday but we are not in the running for top prize this year. We have started our Club Championships Rounds with 6 Seniors, 8 Intermediates and 4 Juniors Qualifying.
Porangahau are looking for some lady players to play with their men or with their own partner on Sunday 4th August in a mixed Foursomes of anyone is interested ring Marilyn Forrest.
Photos and article can be seen in last weeks Bush Telegraph. Margaret
Please support our 27 Hole Tournament this Saturday, there is no fear of a frost, as a breeze is forcast. Well maybe more than a breeze. We will be hosting our other Rosebowl Clubs, Pongaroa, Cape Turnagain, Norsewood and Takapau, plus Michael has a couple of out of town entries. Please be early, or phone the Club on 374 8248, if you are running late so the field can be finalised and on the course at 8.30am. Late entries may be teeing off number 7.

On Course Tee Signs: A big shout-out to our tee sponsors for their continued support of our Club. With business changes, we have 5 tee signs available for advertising your business. If any member wishes to take up one of these signs, please contact our Secretary Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz. Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December. Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees. Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM. At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf. Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures. Travel safely and play well. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Ladies Club Championships; The ladies concluded their Champions on Saturday after being rained, hailed and thundered on the week before. Congratulations , too Margaret Stephenson, (Senior) Sue Burlace (Intermediate) and Kerrie Gundersen (Junior). Runners up being , Angela Farrell, Margaret Treacy and Rainier Arnold. Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3; Conditions at Waipukurau Golf Club were very pleasant for two rounds of golf Saturday and one Sunday. The rough at Waipukurau has for years has been dense clover and still is, which can be deceiving, as the ball looks ok, but the clover can be difficult to hit from. Saturday morning the team played Karamu having a 7 to 3 win, followed in the afternoon with an 8.5 to 1.5 win against Central Hawkes Bay. Sunday morning we came up against the first of the city Clubs Napier, and were defeated 7 to 3. Two matches concluded with draws on the 18th, and 3 finished on the 17th, so it wasn't all bad. The current standings are Hastings first on 6 points with 27.5 games, Onga Onga second also on 6 points and 23 games, Napier third with 4 points and 20 games, with Dannevirke fourth on 4 points and 18.5 games. Looking forward to the final four rounds at Hastings Golf Club on November 15th & 16th . Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December at 7.30pm. A reminder to Committee chairman and others to have your reports to Gail by next weekend (Labour Weekend) for the Annual Report. With daylight saving now in progress, encourage any friends or relatives that are keen to maybe consider a Summer Subscription. (Runs the duration of daylight saving) For membership forms see Patrick at Harold Golf Shop, or email Bailey at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz . If your game is off colour at present, again see Patrick for a lesson. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
