The Dannevirke Golf Club, What's on this week 8/11/19?

St Josephs Ambrose. Great day and great support, with 25 teams of 3, competing this year. This is the largest field ever for the school, The prize table of 10 Liter buckets filled by donations from school family's is a great idea, and this year, all players received a bucket. Thanks to our club members for your support. Maybe there was some potential golfers out there on Saturday
MCI & Associates Mixed Foursomes. We have two new names on the trophy this year, with Jo Ruwhiu and Syd Hikawai taking out the Gross prize. Nett winners were Marilyn Hall & Rod Henricksen, Stableford, Laura & Dave Hurrell, Runners up Gwen Murphy & yours truly.
Saturday 9th November; Interclub with Fielding at Fielding. For those who have responded to Mike, the mini bus will leave the Services & Citizens club carpark at 9am, (possibly one or two seats available) anyone else wishing to get a ride should also meet there and car pool. Tee off is at 11am.
Saturday / Sunday 16th & 17th November; Greenwood Cup Round 4-7 H B Golf Club
The team for these rounds is, 1 Brad Truesdale, 2 Patrick Harold, 3 Craig Nash, 4 Chris Edsell, 5 Clay Lochead, 6 Greg Vigers, 7 Syd Hikawai, 8 Dave Hurrell, 9 Chris Mason 10 Timmy Bell, with reserves, Willy Veitch, Peter Gregory and richie Gray. Best wishes to our team for a successful weekend.
2019 / 2020 Twilight Golf. Looking for information that I can include in next weeks What's On
With the golfing year coming to a finish, the need for a weekly What's On, is becoming unnecessary,. It will continue until Greenwood and Christmas Cheer and the AGM are completed, then take a break until mid February.. The first What's On went out in 2012 to a hand full of members, and was produced as and when necessary. As numbers grew, so did the frequency, and now it is a Thursday night ritual, as is the reading by over 100 members and spouses.
Good luck if you are heading to Fielding on Saturday, or playing on our own immaculate course over the weekend. Last weekend it was difficult to tell that the Greens had only been cored for less than two weeks, and a huge thanks to Kierane and AG for mowing the greens for both tournaments. On Sunday afternoon we played through a group of 4 men, 2 from Wellington and two from Auckland. One Aucklander wanted to shift our course north, and commented he would gladly pay his $1700 sub to play on it. The four ingredients for golf are a course, ball, clubs, and the human. It never ceases to amaze me that, 90% of the blame for bad golf is on the first three, never the human. Get out there, enjoy the game, the walk and the company, and if you want to change something, we have an AGM in early December.
Good Golfing

Any thoughts or suggestions on how this event can be better attended, please reach out to Zane, Peter, or any match committee member. We do not want to see these tournaments fall off the annual calendar. Coronation Cup A team will be selected by Thursday, 2nd April. High School Ambrose: A thank-you note from the High School says it all. " Kia ora e te whānau, our golf tournament last weekend was awesome, with 105 golfers turning up to support our school and try their luck at winning $20 000! Unfortunately, no one was able to ‘sink a hole in one’ and win the money. A big thank you to Mr Amrit Pasad and all the staff and students who helped to make this event a success. We would also like to thank the Dannevirke Golf Course, our generous sponsors and our community for entering the tournament and participating in the fundraising activities held on the day. All profits of this event will go towards our students’ sports travel." Special General Meeting; Thank you to the 55 members who turned out Monday night for the purpose of " Setting the annual member subscription fees for the 2026 / 2027 year. " The conclusion being the annual subscriptions for 2026 / 2027 is $665 for full playing members. The Management Committee acknowledges their error in not advertising this as an Agenda item at the AGM in December. Matter sorted, repeat of error to be avoided, move on. We are in the thick of Match Play golf with GHB Pennants and now Club Champs, and in April, the Coronation Cup. I hope all participants enjoy the experience. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
