Evening all,
Coronation Cup.
Our team competed very well at Pongaroa last weekend, but came up short against the local team, finishing in second place. Pongarora turned on a reasonably fine but cool and windy at times weekend, with their normal very high standard of hospitality. My congratulations to Alan Small, for the condition of their greens. I don't beleive in the 30 odd years I've been playing Pongaroa, I have ever seen their greens in such great condition. They are a challenge to chip onto if your don't play a high ball, but the putting surface was a credit to Alan. At the end of play Pongaroa were declared the winners with 6 points, beating all three competing Clubs. We were in second place with four points from two wins.We lost to Pongaora 7 / 5, and beat Cape Turnagain 8 / 4, and Norsewood 8 1/2 to 3 1/2. Bill Newland and his local knowledge took out our Mackie Cup having three wins, and Doug Stewart was unbeaten as well with two wins and a half. Many more games went right to the 18th, so we were very competitive. Thanks to all who gave up their weekend to play, and also Stephen Paewai, Tony Peeti and Syd Hikiwai for coming out Sunday to caddy.
Saturday 25th May.
Presidents Cup Qualifying Round. Top 16 nett scores go through to make up the field.

If you have a spare trundler or two, please tie a name label on, and leave at or in the trundler shed this weekend or next week. We have a need for about 30 trundlers.
Last night Management Committee Meeting Meeting.
Its good to see this years Committee continuing with a few upgrades around the club. Vaughan Hales, is dealing with the tee and sponsor signs, Peter Greatbatch is coordinating maintenance projects on the rental house, and club room changing rooms, and Roger Ransom, is working on an upgrade to the road entrance.. Through What's On we will provide drawings of the entrance, but for those who travel to Palmerston, he is looking at the rock cages like outside the engineering workshop at the bottom of the Saddle Road, Ashhurst side
Our Caterer Maria Adams have given notice that she wishes to retire, and is finishing mid June. Stephen Paewai has put together an overview of Maria's week, (attached), we ask that members have a read through, and have a chat to anyone you may think would like to take on this role. Stephen Paewai as Clubhouse Manager, is happy to have a chat with anyone interested. One lady had shown interest, but the has decided not to proceed. There is potential there for someone wanting to use their catering skills for private functions.
That's it folks, hope you have a good weekend, and best of luck to the Pennant team
Good Golfing

Ladies Shoot Out; Completed today with Margaret Treacy winning from Margaret Stephenson. Another great day from all accounts. On Course Tee Signs: A big shout-out to our tee sponsors for their continued support of our Club. With business changes, we have 5 tee signs available for advertising your business. If any member wishes to take up one of these signs, please contact our Secretary Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz. Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December. Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees. Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM. At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf. Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures. Travel safely and play well. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Congratulations , too Margaret Stephenson, (Senior) Sue Burlace (Intermediate) and Kerrie Gundersen (Junior). Runners up being , Angela Farrell, Margaret Treacy and Rainier Arnold. Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3; Conditions at Waipukurau Golf Club were very pleasant for two rounds of golf Saturday and one Sunday. The rough at Waipukurau has for years has been dense clover and still is, which can be deceiving, as the ball looks ok, but the clover can be difficult to hit from. Saturday morning the team played Karamu having a 7 to 3 win, followed in the afternoon with an 8.5 to 1.5 win against Central Hawkes Bay. Sunday morning we came up against the first of the city Clubs Napier, and were defeated 7 to 3. Two matches concluded with draws on the 18th, and 3 finished on the 17th, so it wasn't all bad. The current standings are Hastings first on 6 points with 27.5 games, Onga Onga second also on 6 points and 23 games, Napier third with 4 points and 20 games, with Dannevirke fourth on 4 points and 18.5 games. Looking forward to the final four rounds at Hastings Golf Club on November 15th & 16th . Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December at 7.30pm.
