| Coring;
We have good news and bad news. Coring was carried out on Tuesday, and if you have been to the course this week, you will see that the greens surrounds and tee blocks have all been cored. The bad news is the weather hasn't played ball at all for the staff, and thus the decision has been made to keep the course CLOSED for the week end. With the continued showers going through, the sand hasn't dried sufficiently for brushing, and regarding the surrounds and tees, again the cores haven't dried enough to go through a mower and break them down. If the weather clears, Kieran and AG will be out there over the weekend working to return the course to playing condition for next weekend when we host the St Josephs Ambrose Tournament on Saturday, and the MCI & Associates 36 mixed foursomes on the Sunday. So unfortunately no golf this weekend at Dannevirke, which is sad, but simply cannot be helped. (Any alteration to this situation will be advised tomorrow night)
What can we do; Pahiatua and Takapau Golf Clubs have men's day on Saturday at 12 noon, Onga Onga, Norsewood and Pongaroa hold Sunday Club days, Further afield I will leave it to yourselves to make a call and get yourselves a place on their course. The new format HB Golf Club may be an option, especially for those playing round 2 of the Greenwood Cup in November. If all else fails there is always the lawn mower, garden assistants, or getting the paint brush onto that job that just doesn't get done, but has been promised before Christmas 2019 ! (Tui ad) .
CAPE TURNAGAIN MIXED FOURSOMES to be held on Sunday 27th October 2019. Cup of tea 11.30am tee off twelve noon. $30 per couple with meal supplied after golf. All Welcome. Inquiries to Cookie 3743828 or email sgcook@inspire.net.nz. There is also a men's field option for those not wishing to, or not having a partner to play foursomes.
Saturday November 2nd St Joesphs School Ambrose Tournament
Sunday November 3rd MCI & Associates 36 Hole Mixed Foursomes (Note;
although not greatly used yet, we do include a men's section for those unable to find a female partner)
Saturday November 9th
Interclub v Fielding at Fielding. Please advise Mike Matthews on mikematthews058@gmail.com if you are attending. If we have sufficient numbers, an appropriate sized bus will be booked
Management Committee Meeting Report 23/10/2019.
Mike Matthews reported on the Inaugural Tararua Open, for the Motor Homes Ass'n on 14-16th February. This is a Tararua District Council sponsored event, playing Dannevirke, Pahiatua and Eketahuna over three days. This is a promote Tararua event, (more details to follow)
Defibrilator. Your Club has invested in this particular piece of equirpment, which I hope never gets used. Please take the time to have a look where it is stored, (yes outside in a cabinet) and make yourself aware of what you need to do in the event of it being required on the Course. The unit is in a locked cabinet, so first and foremost, you need to contact 111 STOP, advise the operator that you are at the Dannevirke Golf Club and that you need to access the defibrilator. They will access the code, and give it to you to open the cabinet. Then advise that you need an Ambulance. Option 2. Contact James Wailker via email 123waimarie@gmail.com, and he will give you the code, to place safely somewhere in your golf equipment so you can find it in an emergency. We ask that within your respective groups, Ie Seniors, Ladies, Thursday group, Friday boys, Club days etc make it know who has been trained to operate said unit, so that in the event of it being required, members know who yell out for. Do not be afraid to give it a go if needed, as the unit talks you through the process. A training night will take please in the near future (yet to be advised) to explain what the unit is and how to operate
Club Clothing. A reminder with Christmas fast approaching, that "Stitch Me" in Adelaide Road (turn right at the top of Victoria Ave, and the gate way is on the left before the top of the hill heading towards Cole Street)
have stocks of club printed shirts jerseys and jackets. If you have a Dark Blue Jersey the you want the emblem put onto, that will do that as well. If its a well used jersey, showing signs of stress, the may refuse. This is a wondeful business they run from their home, and to call in and get a some club clothing may well suprise you what they do up there
Trophies:
Do you have a tarnished Club Trophy sitting somewhere proudly at your home, well instead of playing golf Saturday, get it down, clean it up and either return it to the Club, or if it needs engraving with just your name for 2018, take it into the engraver opposite Property Brokers in High Street. with a printed label, your name and year. We can collect them from there.
That's it folk, Have a great Labour Weekend, and travel safely.

Presidents Cup Final: t o be contested between Timmy Bell and Denzil Treacy Junior. Sattrup & Brannigan, 2025 winners Mark Rosocaker & Chappy Maniapoto. Congratulations guys. Ladies Shoot Out; Completed today with Margaret Treacy winning from Margaret Stephenson. Another great day from all accounts. On Course Tee Signs: A big shout-out to our tee sponsors for their continued support of our Club. With business changes, we have 5 tee signs available for advertising your business. If any member wishes to take up one of these signs, please contact our Secretary Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz. Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December. Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees. Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM. At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf. Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures. Travel safely and play well. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Saturday 18th October; Club day. Card draw at 11.15am tee off 11.30am Duty House Tony Saturday 8th November; Closing day and Trophy presentations. Congratulations , too Margaret Stephenson, (Senior) Sue Burlace (Intermediate) and Kerrie Gundersen (Junior). Runners up being , Angela Farrell, Margaret Treacy and Rainier Arnold. Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3; Conditions at Waipukurau Golf Club were very pleasant for two rounds of golf Saturday and one Sunday. The rough at Waipukurau has for years has been dense clover and still is, which can be deceiving, as the ball looks ok, but the clover can be difficult to hit from. Saturday morning the team played Karamu having a 7 to 3 win, followed in the afternoon with an 8.5 to 1.5 win against Central Hawkes Bay. Sunday morning we came up against the first of the city Clubs Napier, and were defeated 7 to 3. Two matches concluded with draws on the 18th, and 3 finished on the 17th, so it wasn't all bad. The current standings are Hastings first on 6 points with 27.5 games, Onga Onga second also on 6 points and 23 games, Napier third with 4 points and 20 games, with Dannevirke fourth on 4 points and 18.5 games. Looking forward to the final four rounds at Hastings Golf Club on November 15th & 16th . Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December at 7.30pm.
