Last Sunday Dave Lawrence (GHB Junior selector) brought a small group of Juniors down to play against members of GHB Eagles Association. Amazing that some of Daves players were at the Fiji Open, and others at the Youth Age grade golf in the States. I had the pleasure of being drawn with 15 year old Zeb Kettle from Napier Golf Club, who finished with a par round, which was a great effort in the heavy conditions we are encountering presently. Thanks to Kieran for mowing the greens for us on Sunday morning


On Saturday we held the discussion regarding Saturday Ladies joining the Sattrup & Brannigan 4bbb competition. I received an email from Bob McKee outlining how to play this competition with ladies included with rules for such in the Handicap manual. For members wishing to read these rules, they are printed and displayed in the handicap frame beside the office window. After allowing those who wished to speak for or against, members voted in favour of allowing the Ladies to play. Thankyou to those members who expressed their opinion. Hence forth the matter is closed. . .


Maybe it will be fine overhead on Saturday to get out there and enjoy a round. Please be mindful the Course is really wet currently, so keep carts and trundlers away from soft spots especially in front of 8 and 16. Please do not take trundlers between bunkers and the greens, go around the back of the bunker.


I currently have ten members who have informed me that they don't wish to be included in the Championship draws, any others, please send me an email before Round 1 on 28th July

👉Saturday 26th July; Matches please. Competitions still running are Wiffin Cup, Sattrup & Brannigan and Presidents Cup. Card draw 11.30am Duty Zane, house Majken 👉 Saturday 2nd August. SHB 27 Hole Strokeplay Tournament. Entries close Wednesday 30th July, for the draw publication on Thursday 31st July.. No post entries (No entries on the day) We currently have about 70 entries. Reminder; Members are asked to bring a plate for a shared meal after our 27 hole tournament. 👉 Saturday 9th August; Lui Paewai Trophy. Best stableford by a club member on the day. The Lui Paewai is a sort after Trophy. The forecast looks good for the weekend. If we have heavy frosts, please delay your start time so as not to burn the fairways and greens. Evening all, Saturday 19th July; Presidents Cup Round 1 Matchplay . Duty Match Committee Chalky, House Johnny Sunday 20th July, HGC event. A travel group from Hawkes Bay who visit a course once a month. Approximately 50 - 55 golfers, staring at 9am on Tees 1, 5, 10 and 16. Still plenty of room for locals. Please be aware that players are coming from four directions, so don't just jump on a tee, make sure you they are at least half a fairway away before starting in front of them. Captain Zane is looking for anyone who can help prepare 50 burgers for our visitors around 1pm. Please count your on the green putts, the player with the least putts wins the Tom Irwin Putter competition. Duty, Math committee Peter Gregory, House committee ? Sunday 20th July; The HGC Tour group will be playing Dannevirke at 9am. Between 50 and 55 players using a 4 tee start. Still room for our members, but please be aware of the players on the 9th and 18th fairways, as they may be carrying on, so don't assume they are stopping, and jumping in front of them.
