Plenty of news tonight, so put your glasses on an have a read.

The Kaitoki Marae hosted the annual Marae golf tournament on Saturday 23 February and despite the forecast of wind and rain Tawhirimatea smiled upon us and the weather was fine with little or no wind meaning ideal conditions for golf and the scores reflected the conditions. 76 players made up 4 divisions, this being the best turnout for many years. The Dave Barber trophy was won by Richard Howearth with 44 points and he becomes the only two time winner in the 22 years the tournament has been running. The senior division was won by Billy Te Ture with a nett 66, the intermediate winner was Jim Bob Holm with a nett 65 and the women’s division was won by Charlie Timu with 47 points. The inter marae trophy was won by the Matahi o te Tau Marae, of Te Araroa, this team was led by Henry Ruwhiu and included Mike Wall, Monette Ellmers, Jo Ruwhiu, Myra White and Debbie Ruwhiu.

My thanks go to the Ngati Pakapaka whanau who fed us during the day, the Dannevirke Golf Club members who supported the tournament in a variety of roles, the sponsors who continue to give generously to support the marae, all the golfers who turned up to play and in particular those that travelled to support our tournament.

Regards

Steve

Saturday March 2nd Summer Cup Semi Final. Chris Peck v Timmy Bell, Norm Evans v Brendan Poole. Card Draw 11.30am

Sunday March 3rd GHB Pennants. Round 1 An update from a couple of weeks ago. Seeing a vacancy in Handicap Division 5, Stephen Paewai talked to the Tuesday seniors about putting in a team, which was welcomed by GHB. Hawkes Bay Golf Club also rallied and have put an extra team in to fill the gap in Handicap Division 3, so they no longer have a bye in that grade. It is great to see Dannevirke having 6 teams in a competition with 8 grades. Well done, particularly when we see Waipukurau reduced to just one team this year. Attached tonight are 1 the full draw for week one, 2, the revised draw for handicap 3 and 5 with the extra teams, plus the Dannevirke High School Fundraiser Tournament. Good luck to all teams on Sunday.

Mike Matthews Captain; asks that all players from handicaps 1, 3 and 4 playing at dannevirke on Sunday, contribute $10 towards providing a meal for the Wairoa players, as they always put a meal on for us

Secondly if any other members are thinking of having a round on Sunday, please tee off No 10, as at 11.30am there will be 9 groups off No1 and No10, and 6 groups off No 5 .

Saturday 9th March. Club Championships Round 1 Matchplay. Please if for any reason you don't wish to play, please contact urgently Mike Matthews or Stephen Paewai, as we opeerate an all in draw.

Grade cut offs will be worked through early next week, then group draws will be finalised, and a tee draw commencing 11am Saturday 9th will be made available via What's On at the later date of next Friday morning.

Mike Matthews Captain: Can the Match Committee meet at Mike's Monday 5.30, to assist with Championship draws.

Saturday 16th March Dannevirke High School Golf Tournament. (Flyer attached) which includes First Hole in One On Number 9 = $10,000 Sponsored by Aon. This is one of two Ambrose Tournaments we host each year, as a School Fundraiser, so all High School Old Girls and old Boys, plus those with children, granchildren etc at Dannevirke High, please support this event, where the High School is putting in an effort to help themselves.

North Island LVA. Ohope Golf Club Monday 4th .Wednesday 6th. All the best to Donald Speedy (President North Island LVA) and the other 13 players heading to Ohope on Saturday for this years Tournament Keeping your heads down shouldn't be a problem,, just hope there is only one ball in your vision.

We are really hitting the busy Autumn period with lots of golf, and lots of travel, so please travel safely, and enjoy the courses you get to play on

Good Golfing

Coring; Kierane and his team had a good run early in the week and got the course open for golfing today. Thanks to our staff and all who helped out. Friday 12th September; (3 options) 1 Our course is open, so weather permitting, there will be golf at Dannevirke 2 Cape Turnagain are hosting the Annual Firms Day. 18 holes 10 am Morning tea, 11 am Tee off. $30 entry fee; 3 Onga Onga, Our very own Jim Hickey (aka Doug) thinks the weather here tomorrow is going to be horrid, but a bit further away from the ranges at Onga Onga, things look better with rain not predicted until later in the day. Anyone wanting to go north, leave from the Mangatera Hotel car park at 10.45 am, Tee off at Onga at 11.30 am. Saturday 13th September; Kitt, Kerr, Hape, Simpson foursomes. Duty Zane, House Johnny. Zane has a copy of the rules for those who are not sure on them. 11.30am tee off Green Staff: There is a rule that states "Greens Staff have the right of way". There is only so many hours in a week, and the staff have lots to do to get everything groomed. If a tractor is heading towards you, please wait for them to get out of your range before hitting your ball. You wouldn't hit a ball at someone walking towards you, so don't do so to someone on a tractor. They can't jump out of the way of an oncoming ball if that were to happen. If a green is being mowed, wave the green staff to carry on; it only takes a few minutes to mow a green. A couple of minutes' delay for your round of golf is nothing compared to consistent stopping and starting for the staff. Common sense should prevail. If in doubt, " Wait, thank you. Spring weather is really upon us at present. Tomorrow looks ugly, but who knows? If you wish to brave the conditions, there are plenty of options this weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Thanks for the support from the 20 members who went through to Takapau last Saturday. We made up close to a quarter of the field, so great support for our friends at Takapau. A few bits and pieces to mention. Friday 29th August; Course Closed. The course is closed tomorrow for a Master Builders Ambrose Tournament. There is 90-something players in the field starting on multiple tees, so best we keep clear for them . Friday Boys Mid-Day Competition: Doug has suggested playing in Takapau tomorrow. Gather at the Mangatera Hotel car park for an 11 am departure, 11.30 am tee off at Takapau. Saturday 30th August; Takapau 18-hole Stroke play tournament. (Final Ruahine Rosebowl). The draw for this event is attached (click) . Please ignore the numbers down the left side . The top part of the draw is teeing of Dardanelles with the junior field going off Westwood Ho. It looks like a late start but given they have allowed 11-minute gaps, I am sure the field will start quicker than written. I would suggest being early as I can't see 11-minute times being adhered to. For those interested, a van is leaving Drums at 9.15am. Saturday 30th August; At home, Duty Richie House Angela. Seniors, because of the impending visit by Central and Southern to Cape Turnagain on Tuesday, September 2 nd , we will have a full Club day on Thursday, 4 th , complete with raffles, approaches, etc. On the 9 th September, we are unable to play because of coring. We are looking at a visit to Fielding or Eketahuna on that day. We shall advise next week as to where we are going, and see who are interested. Monday 8th September; Coring. The course will be closed until this job is complete. Kierane will advise when the course is reopened Hole In One; Congratulations Jolanda Van Viliet for holing out on number 14 yesterday. Great effort, Jolanda. Plenty happening as we head into spring golf. Good luck to the 22 heading to Takapau on Saturday. Hopefully, this isn't their last Tournament, but that is a matter for the members to sort. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
