(public notification) From 9am Monday 29 April for the duration of 6 days (weather permitting), essential bridge maintenance and asphalt work will begin at Tamaki River Bridge on SH2, near Tamaki River Road, Tahoraiti. These works are scheduled to end on Saturday 4 May at 5pm. Due to the narrowness of the bridge we need to close it to all traffic while this work is completed. Closing the bridge will enable crews to complete the work faster, minimising ongoing disruption to road users. The bridge will be closed 24 hours a day while work is underway with the following detour in place for traffic: Southbound traffic will detour Laws Road, onto Top Grass Road then to Tamaki River Road. Northbound traffic will detour Maharahara Road to Kumeti Road, onto Top Grass Road and then to Laws Road The detour route is suitable for HMPV and is expected to add between 10-15 minutes to journey times. Where required, school buses, emergency services and over dimension vehicles can be convoyed through the site when needed. Thank you for your patience and understanding of these works. For more information please contact HNO-PN@nzta.govt.nz . A bit of information to take in tonight. For those heading to the Cape Saturday, or staying home playing matches, good luck. Regards Stephen Coronation Cup Zone Play; Our team was successful last weekend, winning Zone 3, to go onto the finals on May 25th and 26th. We completed team wins against Cape Turnagain, Porongahau, and Takapau to gain maximum six points. Five players went through the weekend undefeated, Zane Gregory, Eru Hauiti, Mark Arnold, Sean Edwards and myself. We should also acknowledge the efforts of Johnny Edwards who played number 3 for his old club Cape Turnagain. Johnny also went through the weekend undefeated. Zone finalists are Wairoa, Te Pohue, Pongaroa and Dannevirke, with the finals in Zone 1, but as yet the venue has not been confirmed. A vote of thanks go to Captain Mike for running the office all weekend, Rainier Angela and Gillian for their efforts in the kitchen, along with Syd and other helpers. As a club we put on lunch Saturday, team members brought along an impressive array of food for an evening meal, plus Rainier, Gillian and Syd, cooked breakfast for our team Sunday morning. Thank you one and all. Great to see that our members can and will go the extra mile to provide meals similar to those received over the years at the country clubs. Great effort. Thanks also to our bar staff Bazil, Stephen and Dipak, and anyone else who helped with the bar. Although daylight saving has finished, I haven't had notice from Mike to change Saturday Club starting time to 11am, so this week we remain at 11.30am. Looking at the Championship sheets, matches are running well with some ahead of time. Please keep these matches going, and remember Semi finals are down for Saturday 4th May, and finals are definitely on Saturday 18th May. If the weather does interrupt this weekend, we have Saturday 20th and 27th, plus the afternoon of Anzac day to get matches up to date prior to Semi finals day. Good golfing folks. 👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Evening all, Obituary ; It is with sadness, I report the passing of Alex Hall (Life member) Son Colin called our Secretary to say Alex passed away on Monday 25th March aged 99 years. As a life member Alex continued to send the Club a $100 donation each year, his Membership card arrived between his passing and his funeral service on Thursday 28th , and was put in his casket. President Peter sent the following message, Miranda messaged me yesterday, to relay your message of the sad news – of the passing of Alex. Thank you for letting the Golf Club know. Alex definitely had a good innings. There are still a good number of members who remember Alex for the volunteer work he carried out, helping make the Golf course what it is today. We also remember his golfing ability well. On behalf of the Golf Club, I wish to express our sincere condolences, and let you know that we will be flying the flag for the next few days, as a mark of respect for Alex and your family. Yours Sincerely Peter Greatbatch (Club President) Colins wife Sue replied; Thank you for your lovely message which I have passed on to Colin. We will be interring Alex’ ashes in the Mangatera Cemetery on Monday 29th April at 11.00am. It will be a brief service to place him with Margaret and then it is Alex’ shout at the Mangatera Tavern. We feel that is quite a fitting place to gather as it is where he and Margaret used to celebrate wedding anniversaries and birthdays etc. If you or any of the club members who still remember him would like to join us you would be most welcome. For our new team members, when we go to the country clubs they always put on a substantial meal for us, and this is our turn to pay back. I'm cooking a couple of chickens, but anything savory, vegetable etc please. Don't be shy. Any member who can assist in the kitchen Saturday/ Sunday please email Mike on mikematthews058@gmail.com . If he has too many offers, he can then inform you. Coronation Cup team breakfast at the Clubhouse Sunday morning at 7.30am. Thanks to Hamish at Dannevirke Pharmacy for donating 2 new First Aid Kits for club use Mike I am sure tonight's Obituary will have many members remembering the late Alex Hall. In his years at Dannevirke he did not hit it far, but was very accurate. He used to leave his trundler in a particular place on number 16, and his tee shot would always be within a meter of two of where he had parked it. A very strong match player. Many a single figure golfer would be told what they had to shoot to beat him, in handicap match play.. A tireless worker for our Club. Best wishes to our team for this weekends Coronation Cup, and any members playing Championship matches. Don't forget daylight saving ends Sunday morning! Good Golfing Bryan Burt Club Scribe👍

Shootout Qualifying. Thanks Joy Twilight Golf; Thursday 28th March will see twilight golf conclude for the 2024 season. A BBQ will follow golf. Tee off no later than 5.30pm please Coronation Cup; With the new zones in place, we will be hosting on the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April. The zone clubs for the next 4 years are Dannevirke, Cape Turnagain, Takapau, and Porangahau. Team to be anounced this weekend, and in next weeks W.O. One change in format is that we will play two rounds Saturday and one Sunday. Reason being, if the weather turns bad Saturday, we have the option of playing 27 holes, then completing the second round Sunday morning before the third round. Not necessarily ideal, but an option all the same. DANNEVIRKE HIGH SCHOOL AMBROSE GOLF TOURNAMENT, 2024 This year we had 41 teams (123 players) participating in our annual fundraiser golf tournament. The hole-in-one for $20,000 was not struct. Hopefully someone is lucky next year. This helped us raise about $4500.00 on the day apart from the donations from the sponsors. A special thanks to all the sponsors who sponsored a hole, gave us prizes and contributed in one way or the other to make this a success. A big thanks to Scanpower Limited for being the main sponsor and Dannevirke Golf Club for letting us use the golf course free of charge. Thanks, Mike Matthews, for helping on the day. I would like to thank all those people who played in this tournament and all the teachers and students/prefects who helped to make this tournament a huge success. (Amrit Prasad – teacher in-charge for golf) Membership cards and bag tags, Miranda will be in the shop Saturday between 10am and 12 noon to distribute membership envelopes. Anyone wanting to pay their sub while Miranda is on site, are welcome to do so. Club is not a bank; If possible can members please arrive at the Golf Club with cash for the competition. It has become very time consuming processing cash outs and eftpos payments for shop sales etc while trying to sort the groups for the day. For obvious reasons we don't hold much cash, so getting it from town before arrival will assist the Match Committee starters. Another weekend with members spread far and wide to compete in competition golf, either at Pennants or the Pongaora Strokeplay Tournament. Good luck to you all, and travel safely. Dates; The first round of Championship Matchplay is set down for Saturday 9th March, however, we encourage players to communicate with their opponent, and matches can be played when suitable to both parties. Please note Intermediate A, and Junior A and B, have more than 16 players so it is important to get matches going. There is 113 names on this years Championships, and yes their will be errors. Too date we have added Max Charmley, Jim Morten and Grayson Fierabend. There will also be players despite several requests, who didn't withdraw, and don't want to play. These defaults will all happen in the first round, so at the end of the day, we the elected Match Committee do not believe this will change the two players who play the final on Saturday 18th May. Marae Golf Tournament; A very good day on Saturday with a field of 80 players. The Dave Barber Memorial Cup was won by Johnny Edwards who shot an 83, not bad for someone turning 86 next month. He was a hugely popular winner. The Marae trophy was won by the Makirikiri team of Johnny Edwards, Rhea Hazners, Jamie Hazners, Tony Peeti, Chappy Maniapoto and Stephen Paewai. I’d just like to acknowledge the Dannevirke Golf Club, the Greens staff, our hosts from Whiti Te Ra Marae and all the Club members who supported the tournament. Over $3,000.00 was raised for the Whiti Te Ra Marae. Championships; A final reminder, draws will be done next week for our matchplay to commence on Saturday 2nd March. If you don't wish to be included in the all in for Intermediate and Junior grades, please contact Captain Mike urgently. on mikematthews058@gmail.com The Open Championship qualifying rounds have concluded, and the seeding has been finalized. Farm and Drive way; Our thanks to farm Committee member Roger Ransom (and helpers) for organising and executing the removal of water from under and beside the driveway. The water will now head to the large open drain under the fence on the eastern side. An open drain goes through the paddock on the right as you come in the drive, which will be fenced to keep stock out. Two lines of novaflo have extended into the paddock on the left, to drain a couple of springs, into the culverts under the road. In the next week or so, the ground that has been leveled between the road and the fence will be sown into grass, so please slow down and pass oncoming traffic on the road, rather than running over the newly sown areas. Fences will be reinstated as soon as possible. Much of this work has been made possible with proceeds from the house on Tamaki River Road. Some of it maintenance, and some long overdue improvements around the farm and course. Plenty of opportunity to get some golf in this weekend, with Club day and Pennants. Please show respect for our wedding couple and their guests, (give them space) Have a great weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Great to see the members who put their names forward at the AGM, getting involved with their committee work. Healthy committees make a healthy Club. Looking forward to taking part in our local Marae fundraiser on Saturday. This annual event brings guests from near and far, with the Golf Club donating the use of our course for the day. Always a great day. Good Golfing,👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
