What's On?

Coring; Kierane and his team had a good run early in the week and got the course open for golfing today. Thanks to our staff and all who helped out. Friday 12th September; (3 options) 1 Our course is open, so weather permitting, there will be golf at Dannevirke 2 Cape Turnagain are hosting the Annual Firms Day. 18 holes 10 am Morning tea, 11 am Tee off. $30 entry fee; 3 Onga Onga, Our very own Jim Hickey (aka Doug) thinks the weather here tomorrow is going to be horrid, but a bit further away from the ranges at Onga Onga, things look better with rain not predicted until later in the day. Anyone wanting to go north, leave from the Mangatera Hotel car park at 10.45 am, Tee off at Onga at 11.30 am. Saturday 13th September; Kitt, Kerr, Hape, Simpson foursomes. Duty Zane, House Johnny. Zane has a copy of the rules for those who are not sure on them. 11.30am tee off Green Staff: There is a rule that states "Greens Staff have the right of way". There is only so many hours in a week, and the staff have lots to do to get everything groomed. If a tractor is heading towards you, please wait for them to get out of your range before hitting your ball. You wouldn't hit a ball at someone walking towards you, so don't do so to someone on a tractor. They can't jump out of the way of an oncoming ball if that were to happen. If a green is being mowed, wave the green staff to carry on; it only takes a few minutes to mow a green. A couple of minutes' delay for your round of golf is nothing compared to consistent stopping and starting for the staff. Common sense should prevail. If in doubt, " Wait, thank you. Spring weather is really upon us at present. Tomorrow looks ugly, but who knows? If you wish to brave the conditions, there are plenty of options this weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

A few bits and pieces to mention. Friday 29th August; Course Closed. The course is closed tomorrow for a Master Builders Ambrose Tournament. There is 90-something players in the field starting on multiple tees, so best we keep clear for them . Friday Boys Mid-Day Competition: Doug has suggested playing in Takapau tomorrow. Gather at the Mangatera Hotel car park for an 11 am departure, 11.30 am tee off at Takapau. Saturday 30th August; Takapau 18-hole Stroke play tournament. (Final Ruahine Rosebowl). The draw for this event is attached (click) . Please ignore the numbers down the left side . The top part of the draw is teeing of Dardanelles with the junior field going off Westwood Ho. It looks like a late start but given they have allowed 11-minute gaps, I am sure the field will start quicker than written. I would suggest being early as I can't see 11-minute times being adhered to. For those interested, a van is leaving Drums at 9.15am. Saturday 30th August; At home, Duty Richie House Angela. Seniors, because of the impending visit by Central and Southern to Cape Turnagain on Tuesday, September 2 nd , we will have a full Club day on Thursday, 4 th , complete with raffles, approaches, etc. On the 9 th September, we are unable to play because of coring. We are looking at a visit to Fielding or Eketahuna on that day. We shall advise next week as to where we are going, and see who are interested. Monday 8th September; Coring. The course will be closed until this job is complete. Kierane will advise when the course is reopened Hole In One; Congratulations Jolanda Van Viliet for holing out on number 14 yesterday. Great effort, Jolanda. Plenty happening as we head into spring golf. Good luck to the 22 heading to Takapau on Saturday. Hopefully, this isn't their last Tournament, but that is a matter for the members to sort. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Saturday 9th August; Lui Paewai Trophy. (best stableford score across the field, men's & ladies) Duty Pete Gregory, House? Another call to members still involved in Wiffin Cup, Sattrup & Brannigan, and Presidents Cup. Please get your matches played, so the next round can take place. SHB 27 Hole Strokeplay Tournament; Congratulations to Brad Truesdale, the winner of the 2025 event. After a one-hour frost delay, the field got going at 9 am, making it a long day, with the last two groups of Seniors and Intermediates coming in around 5.30 pm. The daily winner of the Rosebowl competition was Pongaroa, who take a large lead into the final Tournament at Takapau. A gentle reminder here, please. It is the responsibility of the senior-most player in the group to keep his group of players no more than half a fairway behind the group in front of you. Gaps in the field of one or two fairways are unacceptable. On a lighter note, Captain Zane would like to thank everyone who entered the tournament. Closing entries on Wednesday helped in that a starting draw could be done and put on Facebook before the day. Imagine the chaos if 92 players had arrived on Saturday and trying to do a draw. Thank you also to the members who brought plates for the evening's shared meal. The array of dishes and quantity meant nobody should have left there hungry. Thank you, ladies, for assisting Gemma, serving the meal, and cleaning up afterwards. Great effort, folks. Thanks to the members of the match committee for assisting Zane & Pete to get the results out, and thanks, Pat (Harold Golf) for entering the entries into the computer and sorting the cards into fours, for Saturday morning. As always, key stakeholders in the event will be asked for their input into a review of this years event, so we can take lessons learnt into next years tournament. Friday 29th August; Course Closed. Hosting the annual Master Builders Association 18-hole Ambrose Tournament. This involves a large field of those involved in the building industry from Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, and Tararua districts. Greens Staff: A clarification from our greens staff. On the rare occasion the sign goes up prohibiting the use of carts (wet weather), the term carts includes club and private carts, as well as three and two-wheel motorbikes. Thank you. That concludes this week's summary of events. Hopefully the weather plays ball on Saturday and we get a reasonable field for the Lui Paewai. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Hopefully, this clarifies this for you all 🏌️ House Committee On Saturday is our annual strokeplay tournament. Stephen is on duty, and as it will be bus,y I’d appreciate some assistance, please. Specifically offer to take the empties to the recycling bins, offer to fill the dumb waiter to restock the chiller. It would be a great help if everyone returned their empty bottles to the bar. A number of the House Committee members are playing on Saturday and have offered to help serve behind the bar. Thanks for your cooperation. Regards Stephen. 🏌️ Battle Of the Saddle; The annual Battle of the Saddle is set for Sunday, 21st September at the Manawatu Golf Club.
