Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees. Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM. At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf. Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures. Travel safely and play well. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3; Conditions at Waipukurau Golf Club were very pleasant for two rounds of golf Saturday and one Sunday. The rough at Waipukurau has for years has been dense clover and still is, which can be deceiving, as the ball looks ok, but the clover can be difficult to hit from. Saturday morning the team played Karamu having a 7 to 3 win, followed in the afternoon with an 8.5 to 1.5 win against Central Hawkes Bay. Sunday morning we came up against the first of the city Clubs Napier, and were defeated 7 to 3. Two matches concluded with draws on the 18th, and 3 finished on the 17th, so it wasn't all bad. The current format has been the same for many years, so any ideas on a refresh would also be appreciated. Sunday 2nd November; SHB 27 Hole Mixed Foursomes (Cancelled). The decision has been made that this event may well have run its course, with only a handful of pairs playing. We are all aware of the history and how, in the 1970s, you had to get your name up early to get into the field. Unfortunately, we no longer live in the 1970s. We may be able to revive this or a similar event in the future, so we look for ideas going forward. We need people who will walk the walk, not just talk the talk on this one. Starting a fresh, will require a major commitment, so don't expect someone! else to do it, get involved. Battle of the Saddle Shield; Battle Report – Dannevirke vs. Manawatu Last Sunday, ten of Dannevirke’s finest stormed into Palmerston North to take on Manawatu’s best at their home course. Flying the Dannevirke flag were Pat Harold, Brad Truesdale, William Harold, Angus Findlay, Chris Mason, Rhys Harold, Clay Lochead, Brad Dippie, Lance Hambrook, and John Garnett. The format was singles and four-ball, with 15 points on the line. The conditions? Slippery greens and the usual “welcome to Palmy” howling wind — not exactly golfer-friendly, but no one ever said this was supposed to be easy. Before the first tee-off, team manager/event organiser/social media coordinator (and part-time motivational speaker) Craig Nash fired up the troops with a rousing speech that was part Braveheart, part Tony Robbins. With spirits high, the boys headed out. The matches were tight all day, momentum swinging like a dodgy driver off the first tee. But when the dust settled, Dannevirke held its nerve, claiming a hard-fought 8.5 to 6.5 victory. Not only did we take down Manawatu on their home track, but we also levelled the all-time series at three wins apiece. Safe to say, the beers tasted even better afterwards. Next year we’ll host them at Dannevirke, where we’ll aim to tip the scales firmly in our favour. In the meantime, the focus turns to the Greenwood Cup in Waipukurau in a couple of weeks, where hopefully we can continue this form! Regards Brad Dippie. (Selector, Chat GPT reporter) Eagles Golfing Society of HB Inc; I have 20 tickets left to sell for the Halberg Foundation raffle, with first prize being a round of golf for four persons at Cape Kidnappers. I will have these at the club Friday and possibly Saturday, subject to sales. Tickets $5 each. Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December. A reminder from Gail for those who submit reports for the Annual Report: please start your preparation and have it to Gail before the end of October. Committees. These include Match, House, Greens, Management, Ladies. This is your Club, and we are looking for some of our younger members to put their hand up for committee duties. It is not by any means onerous, but it is time for a changing of the guard. I am absolutely sure we oldies will gladly let you take our place at the committee tables . Please think about this and put your hand up. That wraps it for tonight, folks. Hopefully, the wind abates so we can enjoy a game of golf over the weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

The winners are Kitt, Amrit Prasad & Norm Evans, Kerr, Joe Clarke and Harley Hauiti, Hape, Jarrod & Jacob Stephenson, and Hape Trent Conway & Andrew Galloway. Congratulations all. Anyone wanting to go north, leave from the Mangatera Hotel car park at 10.45 am, Tee off at Onga at 11.30 am. Saturday 13th September; Kitt, Kerr, Hape, Simpson foursomes. Duty Zane, House Johnny. Zane has a copy of the rules for those who are not sure on them. 11.30am tee off Green Staff: There is a rule that states "Greens Staff have the right of way". There is only so many hours in a week, and the staff have lots to do to get everything groomed. If a tractor is heading towards you, please wait for them to get out of your range before hitting your ball. You wouldn't hit a ball at someone walking towards you, so don't do so to someone on a tractor. They can't jump out of the way of an oncoming ball if that were to happen. If a green is being mowed, wave the green staff to carry on; it only takes a few minutes to mow a green. A couple of minutes' delay for your round of golf is nothing compared to consistent stopping and starting for the staff. Common sense should prevail. If in doubt, " Wait, thank you. Spring weather is really upon us at present. Tomorrow looks ugly, but who knows? If you wish to brave the conditions, there are plenty of options this weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

The draw for this event is attached (click) . Please ignore the numbers down the left side . The top part of the draw is teeing of Dardanelles with the junior field going off Westwood Ho. It looks like a late start but given they have allowed 11-minute gaps, I am sure the field will start quicker than written. I would suggest being early as I can't see 11-minute times being adhered to. For those interested, a van is leaving Drums at 9.15am. Saturday 30th August; At home, Duty Richie House Angela.
