What's On?

Saturday June 14th; Wiffin Cup Round 2 matchplay. Duty, Match Bernie, House Basil A subtle reminder from our captains, that some round 1 Wiffin Cup matches are still outstanding. Please get these completed as soon as possible. Please let the person waiting to play the winner know what is happening, so they are aware. Sattrup & Brannigan; The draw is up in the club house. The weather was not that great last Saturday for first round matches, but again please keep in contact with your opponents, and get these games played before round 2 on June 28th. Given we are now in winter conditions, please use metal tracks etc where possible, especially if you are in a cart or on a bike. Skid marks take forever to grow grass in the winter, and your fellow golfers won't be happy playing off the bare dirt. Not a lot to report tonight, so I'll sign off. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Pine Trees; The Club has 6 plantations of pines which have been there for many years. The original intention being to plant these for harvest, and time has come for this process to begin. In the very near future, there will be felling carried out in three areas. Firstly some pines that need to come down at the back of number 11 green, by the railway, the plantation to the right of 13 (Lands End,) and a couple of pines to the left of number 13, which shade the green during winter. This work will have minimal effect on fairways, as the trees at the back of 11 will be trucked out via the farm, the lands end plantation will go out through the former Ministry of Works yard, the ones to the left of Lands end will go out along the river bank again to the MOW yard. The question of replanting, particularly the right of Lands End will be considered and proposals put to the December 2025 Annual General Meeting. All tree felling will be done early in the morning, and only trimming and log removal will carry on during the day. Please, If any area is fenced off, and No Entry signs are in place, then they are there for yours and the contractors safety. Such areas are not a recommendation, they are a rule, and any members seen entering these areas will be severely spoken too ! Another big weekend for Dannevirke mens golf. On behalf of our members, best wishes to our Coronation Cup team. Good Golfing,👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Greenwood Cup 2025; With the Pennant competition winding up for the year, it would be good to see the players wishing to play Greenwood this year, keeping playing golf over the next few months, and leading into the first round in October. We will get something going after the Championship finals on May 17th. Keen to get any thoughts from prospective players over the next couple of weeks. Captains Zane & Peter are keen to hear from you. Thank you too all who have participated in this years Club Championships. The level of involvement is still at a good level, and although a few games get forfeited, our participation rate is still very good across the Club. The Match committee had some discussion last Monday around Championships. While summer and autumn golf has become very popular, it has jammed a lot of golf into the first four or five months of the year. This includes our Summer Cup, GHB Pennants, Coronation Cup, and three rounds of the Ruahine Rosebowl. and Championships. We will look to use more of May and possibly June for some of our competitions before winter really sets in. In regards to Golf Hawkes Bay, I can assure you, the programme is decided by the 17 club delegates. We sometimes go into battle for our Club, but at the end of the day, it is a democracy, and the majority rules when put to a vote. I don't see any appetite from Golf Hawkes Bay clubs to go back into winter golf for the likes of Pennants and Coronation Cup at this stage. For all involved in Matches this weekend, good luck. To Tony Peeti and his team, good luck in the Pennats final. Good Golfing, 👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Do not take carts or bikes between bunkers and greens, and do not ride over tees.. Noticeable last weekend was the marks from carts going up the grass bank on number 9 and 17and skidding. Please use the metal tracks from now on. Kierane commented today that just doing their work was showing up tyre marks in the soft spots. Congratulations to all who have made Semi finals in the Club Championships. Good luck this weekend, any issues with getting games played talk to your opponent first or Captains Zane or Peter.
