Saturday 11th March; Club Championships Round 1 match play. 11.30am. Please notify the office of matches being played. (the draw from Stephen is included below)

I’ve been tasked with doing the draw for the Club Championships, no easy feat, so if I’ve missed people or put people in please ring me 0211658685 to make the necessary changes. Do not make the changes yourself and do not ask anyone else to change the draw. There are fields of 27 in the Intermediate A and B which effectively creates another round, so the round of 16 needs to be completed by Easter. Round 1 of the Club Championships is to start this Saturday so if you can’t play get agreement from your opponent and let me know please. I’ve already granted some pairs dispensation.

Greens Staff Message; Kierane and AG are concerned at the state our Par 3 tees are being left in. Taking the biggest divot is not a golf competition. Where possible the majority of members should be using a tee on a par three tees. If you do take a large divot please replace it in the hole made, as the roots may still grow in the bare soil. If you only make a slight scar, please get some sand from the sand bucket, and level the scar with sand. If you see an unrepaired divots, please assist our staff by repairing them, to keep our tees looking and playing well for everyone.

Week end firewood. Kierane is inviting members to come out Saturday or Sunday and collect firewood from the back of the car park, and on the other side of the trees on the practice fairway. (Hedge trimmer has been in ) Please follow all health and safety procedures with your chainsaws etc,. The reason for asking you to do this work over the weekend, is to save Kierane having to go through the Health & Safety procedures with you because he is on the course. If he is on the course, he becomes the person responsible, if he isn't there, you are responsible for your own safety.

Clubhouse;  Please see attached a letter 'Majken' pieced together regarding the state of our clubhouse on occasions

Dannevirke Golf Club – Cleaner Update & Request;  Good evening Golf Club members ๐Ÿ˜Š

I would firstly like to thank all of those members that have taken the time to thank me personally or through other avenues with regard to the cleanliness of the Club rooms and other associated areas on the Club such as the toilet and shower blocks – I appreciate your feedback.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to point out a number of instances where my work and ability to fully service the club amenities have come under pressure based on the amount of time allocated for my services. Under normal circumstances I am able to provide a quality service to which the Club can be proud of, and that visiting golfers or campers can be happy with (and of course spread the word to others).

These instances have become more frequent recently and revolve around not just the men’s but also the women’s toilets & shower facilities as well as general rubbish within the club house. I would like to point out that although my job title is of the club house cleaner, I am certainly not a maid or anyone’s mother. When we have instances of people throwing up & faecal matter on & around the toilets without any effort to clean up after themselves, this detracts from my ability to operate within my cleaning hours, and not to mention I should not need to clean other’s bodily fluids off the toilets or floors. I would also like to point out that there are many rubbish bins provided for members to utilise & I should not need to pick up rubbish off floors (in some instances right beside rubbish bins).

We are all looking to achieve the same outcome – a nice, clean & tidy environment for our members to be proud of and to ensure any visitors to the club go away with found memories and the ability to tell others of what a great club we have.

Please ensure you clean up after yourself, be proud of our Clubhouse and what we have to offer, especially during this time where our ability to host neighbouring golf club members that are unable to play their own course due to the recent weather events.

Again, thank to those who have taken the time to show their appreciation as well as help look after our club house & amenities when I am not there to do so.

Kind regards, Majken

We have club members playing in several events from tomorrow onward.  Summer Cup Semi finals, Championships, Five course classic, and The North Island LVA at Lansdown Masterton. Good luck to all involved.

Saturday 13th December; Shires Fruit & Vege market sponsored Christmas Cheer. 12 noon Shotgun Start. A draw will be posted on our Facebook page on Friday. As we already have 120 in the field and tees allocated, no further entries will be accepted. Please present early at the office to pay your entry fee of $30 and be at your starting tee ready to go at 12 noon. House Committee; Duty Tony Neilson Bar roster 4 pm Tony, Baz and Scott, 4.45 pm Gillian, Angela and Norm, 5.30 pm Tony and Drum, 6.15 pm Stephen and Depak We’re expecting a full field on Saturday, and committee members will be playing and would like to enjoy the evening with their fellow members so we would like your assistance, please. Ask if you can help, for example, if you are heading downstairs,s take a box of empties and put in the recycling, ask if the chiller needs restocking, pick up empty bottles. These little things would be really appreciated, and we can all enjoy the occasion. With large numbers, we quickly run out of $2 coins, so if you have a pocket full of coins, go to the bar and exchange them for notes. Ma pango ma whero ka oti ai te mahi – many hands make light work! Thanks, Stephen. Annual General Meeting; Last Monday saw a muster of around 40 members attend our AGM. A sign of the times, perhaps, but members don't appear to see the significance of this once-a-year meeting. Decisions are made that carry the Club forward and report on the previous year. The committee nominations all went through, and Bernie Williams has been nominated as a Vice President, following Vaughan Hales' resignation earlier in the year. An increase in Subscriptions was approved, and I will report next week for those paying monthly, fortnightly, and weekly, what changes need to be made to keep you up to date. Carts: The last two of our replacement carts arrived on course today. That gives us a fleet now of 8 new and one older cart. These carts are part of our business growth strategy, as a great deal of visiting green fee players request carts at the same time as they book to play, especially group bookings. This forms part of the package we can offer travelling players. Secondly, for various reasons, younger members who have joined clubs since Covid prefer to play in carts. Greenfees & carts this year brought 87k into our club, compared to 62k the previous year. Having Patrick (Harold Golf) on course potentially captures more green fees and cart hire. Cart for Sale; We have one of our original carts for Sale at $500. Batteries may need replacing. Call Captain Zane or ask Patrick for an inspection when he is on course. Next week's What's On will be the last for the year. Looking forward to Christmas Cheer! Good Golfing'๐Ÿ‘ Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Monday 8th December; Annual General Meeting; 7.30 pm at the Clubhouse. The booklet was emailed to you all by Bailey last Monday evening. Saturday 13th December; Shires Fruit & Vege Market sponsored Christmas Cheer Tournament. Our biggest event of the year. If you haven't done so already, please enter your fours on the Entry sheet in the foyer, so a draw can be produced and sent out next Thursday night. Sorry folks, all of our carts have been booked, so no more carts are available. Result : Interclub with Feilding Golf Club last Saturday. For the 7th year in a row, Feilding were the winners on the day. Thank you to the 19 players from Dannevirke who participated. Congratulations to Jacob Stephenson, 75 off the stick and 45 stablefords. Even Jacobs score couldn't lift our average! The rain over the past two days has possibly taken the sting out of the ground, so we may miss the run for a couple of days. Never mind it will be back. Have a great weekend, and see you all on Monday at the AGM. Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Saturday 29th November; Feilding interclub at Feilding. 11.30 am tee off. Tony Peeti & Eru Hauiti are both taking vans, so there may be rides available. Contact these gentlemen directly, please. Tony's van leaves the golf club at 9.50 am. Saturday 29th November; Club day, 11.30 am card draw. Duty Richie House Basil Sunday 30th November; Pongaroa are hosting their Prize Giving and Christmas Cheer Tournament. I believe it is a 12 noon start for anyone interested in attending Saturday 13th December : Shires Fruit & Vege Market sponsored Christmas Cheer. 12 noon shotgun start, entry sheet in the foyer at the Clubhouse. All carts are booked. Once again, our haggle hole (no. 14) will be manned by the formidable team of Glen McClelland & Marcus Ransom. This team of two has given up their time for the past 7 or 8 years to man the haggle hole and donate their proceeds to worthy causes around our community or club. Thanks also to the ham sponsors for the haggle hole. Originally, Vet Services and PGG Wrightson. Vet Services have continued, and I took over the PGG Wrightson sponsorship some years ago. Maybe a bit damp tomorrow, but the forecast for the weekend is good. We are bearing down on 100 years of inter-club fixtures with Feilding (next couple of years I believe). Maybe we can turn the clock back 100 years and go to Feilding by train or horseback and stay for a week!, Watch this space. Happy 40th for yesterday Captain Zane.
