Welcome to this weeks edition of What's On . For the new members who have been added to the email list tonight, welcome. What's on is an email to Dannevirke Golf Club members letting them know what's coming up at the club, and will from time to time have articles about events that are either happening or have happened. Enjoy.

Saturday  19th June Card draw 11am. (Again to our new members this means arrive between 10.30 and 10.45, fill your details out on a score card and hand it in at the office. At 11am the starter will call groups of four to the different starting tees, and away you go. Saturday is Men's club day plus Saturday ladies.) Members involved in Sattrup & Brannigan , and Wiffin Cup competitions, please keep your matches up to date

Sunday 20th June. Waipawa Golf Club 27 Hole Strokeplay Tournament. 8.30am Tee Off. All day gross & net competition. Entry fee $35 includes lunch. Enquiries please contact justin.waipawagolfclub@gmail.com

Club house; The Club house was left in a bit of a mess last weekend and I take some responsibility as I locked up on Sunday. But could I please ask if there is anything on the floor or left on tables please pick it up or remove it as it makes it so much easier for those that clean the facility, this would be greatly appreciated.

Sisters Club; Great tournament, similar result! Numbers were well up on previous years including our own team. Next year is the 50th playing of the event in Patea and numbers are expected to be high as Greymouth is being invited and those that haven’t participated for a while are expected to play. There is limited accommodation in south Taranaki so we need some indication and a commitment early on to secure places. Also a special shirt is being printed and will be part of the entry fee, again an early indication of numbers is important for the organisers. So please contact me if you would like to go to Patea next Queens Birthday weekend. Thanks Stephen

Coronation Cup; The Finals of the Coronation Cup for 2021 was played last weekend 12th & 13th June at Napier Golf Club. It was contested by defending Champions Pongaroa, Wairoa, Maraenui & Takapau all seeking to get their name on the trophy for 2021.

A special thanks to the team at Napier Golf Club being able to host as it was extremely busy with little to no tee times available during the weekend!

With the teams playing 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday the teams looked to get off to a good a start on Saturday as possible with the overall results never known until late into the Sunday round.

At the end of play on Saturday Wairoa were the front runner’s going in to Sunday just ahead of Maraenui. After a slight delay on Sunday due to fog the teams were back out for the last 18 holes.

Wairoa continued their form on Sunday with Maraenui close behind.

When all the results had been calculated Wairoa came away with 3 wins from 3 to win the Coronation Cup for 2021. Maraenui were a close 2nd with 2 wins from 3.

Results were:

1st: Wairoa – 6pts – 23 Games

2nd: Maraenui – 4pts – 22 Games

3rd: Pongaroa – 2pts – 17.5 Games

4th: Takapau – 0pts – 9.5 Games

Congratulations to Wairoa!

Thank you to all the players and teams that played this year it was great to see all the teams play after last years event saw some teams unable to play.

Secretary Miranda; Can you make a mention that those members who are paying their subs by weekly instalment of $10.00 might like to increase this to the new minimum payment of $10.50. to avoid being in arrears at the end of the Sub year.

Working Bee; Saturday 17th July 8am. Assistance is required by able bodied members to remove all the iron from the old woolshed on our property on Tamaki River Road, so this can then be demolished by digger. Obviously health and safety is necessary, so if you feel you can assist, please before golf on the 17th is the day.

I hope you have all enjoyed the read tonight. As you can see, there has been a lot of cut and pasting going on, so thanks for these contributions. Any member wanting a non commercial article added to What's On, please email bburt@inspire.net.nz before 5pm Thursday evening.

Good golfing to you all,

Coring; Kierane and his team had a good run early in the week and got the course open for golfing today. Thanks to our staff and all who helped out. Friday 12th September; (3 options) 1 Our course is open, so weather permitting, there will be golf at Dannevirke 2 Cape Turnagain are hosting the Annual Firms Day. 18 holes 10 am Morning tea, 11 am Tee off. $30 entry fee; 3 Onga Onga, Our very own Jim Hickey (aka Doug) thinks the weather here tomorrow is going to be horrid, but a bit further away from the ranges at Onga Onga, things look better with rain not predicted until later in the day. Anyone wanting to go north, leave from the Mangatera Hotel car park at 10.45 am, Tee off at Onga at 11.30 am. Saturday 13th September; Kitt, Kerr, Hape, Simpson foursomes. Duty Zane, House Johnny. Zane has a copy of the rules for those who are not sure on them. 11.30am tee off Green Staff: There is a rule that states "Greens Staff have the right of way". There is only so many hours in a week, and the staff have lots to do to get everything groomed. If a tractor is heading towards you, please wait for them to get out of your range before hitting your ball. You wouldn't hit a ball at someone walking towards you, so don't do so to someone on a tractor. They can't jump out of the way of an oncoming ball if that were to happen. If a green is being mowed, wave the green staff to carry on; it only takes a few minutes to mow a green. A couple of minutes' delay for your round of golf is nothing compared to consistent stopping and starting for the staff. Common sense should prevail. If in doubt, " Wait, thank you. Spring weather is really upon us at present. Tomorrow looks ugly, but who knows? If you wish to brave the conditions, there are plenty of options this weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

This has been mentioned previously, so make up a pair and come along for an 11.30 am start. Takapau 18 Hole Strokeplay Tournament. Thanks for the support from the 20 members who went through to Takapau last Saturday. We made up close to a quarter of the field, so great support for our friends at Takapau. The gross winner was J McGillicuddy. Pongaroa were the 2025 winners of the Ruahine Rosebowl. That's it for tonight, folks. Have a good weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

A few bits and pieces to mention. Friday 29th August; Course Closed. The course is closed tomorrow for a Master Builders Ambrose Tournament. There is 90-something players in the field starting on multiple tees, so best we keep clear for them . Friday Boys Mid-Day Competition: Doug has suggested playing in Takapau tomorrow. Gather at the Mangatera Hotel car park for an 11 am departure, 11.30 am tee off at Takapau. Saturday 30th August; Takapau 18-hole Stroke play tournament. (Final Ruahine Rosebowl). The draw for this event is attached (click) . Please ignore the numbers down the left side . The top part of the draw is teeing of Dardanelles with the junior field going off Westwood Ho. It looks like a late start but given they have allowed 11-minute gaps, I am sure the field will start quicker than written. I would suggest being early as I can't see 11-minute times being adhered to. For those interested, a van is leaving Drums at 9.15am. Saturday 30th August; At home, Duty Richie House Angela. Seniors, because of the impending visit by Central and Southern to Cape Turnagain on Tuesday, September 2 nd , we will have a full Club day on Thursday, 4 th , complete with raffles, approaches, etc. On the 9 th September, we are unable to play because of coring. We are looking at a visit to Fielding or Eketahuna on that day. We shall advise next week as to where we are going, and see who are interested. Monday 8th September; Coring. The course will be closed until this job is complete. Kierane will advise when the course is reopened Hole In One; Congratulations Jolanda Van Viliet for holing out on number 14 yesterday. Great effort, Jolanda. Plenty happening as we head into spring golf. Good luck to the 22 heading to Takapau on Saturday. Hopefully, this isn't their last Tournament, but that is a matter for the members to sort. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
