Bryan Burt - Club Scribe • February 2, 2023

Thanks Mike for the last few weeks updates. I've had a break so back into it.

Saturday 4th February; Summer cup Round 1 Matchplay, the full draw is attached,

Match Committee; Captain Mike requests a Meeting at 10.15am Saturday

Monday 6th February;  NZMCA motor homes tournament round 3. Tee off 10.30am. Club members, Captain Mike will be manning the shop on and off during the day, please check in at the office before teeing off . Members with some free time Monday, Mike could do with some help during the day with bar, kitchen, starting and results. Let him know over the week end if you can help, and he will give you a time and job.

Postponement; Unfortunately the Clubs NZ Womens North Island Golf Tournament due to be held next week in Whangamata has been postponed, (Pretty obvious when we saw their course on One News last week). Clubs NZ have postponed until 2024 in Whangamata, so our bid to host this tournament will go forward then for 2025.

From Stephen Paewai;

Sisters Club

This year’s tournament is being hosted by the Weedons Golf Club and will be the first time it’s been held on the King’s Birthday!! that is the 3rd and 4th of June. Those interested in attending there will be a meeting at the Merrylees Hotel Wednesday 8th February at 7.00pm, if you would like to participate but can’t get to the meeting please let me know. Everyone arranges their own travel, return tickets are available currently at approx $220.00 return. The accommodation and travel will be organised by the committee. In 2024 we will be hosting the tournament so it’d be great to get good numbers for this year.

Marae tournament

This year’s tournament will be held on Saturday 25 February, there’s a notice in the foyer if you are interested in playing can you please put your names on the sheet.

Regards Stephen.

Management Committee; President Tony called a January Meeting, to minute a few matters

Farm House; An update from the AGM. Several offers were put forward. A sub Committee reviewed these and made a decision. The house was settled on Wednesday 1st February.

Subscriptions, Secretary Miranda asks that members please update theeir payments following the subscription increase voted in at the AGM. Weekly is now $11 and monthly $47.70

Earth Quake Assessment;  VP Peter Greatbatch was on site when the assessor had a look at the clubhouse. As yet we don't have the report, so no update is available at this stage

Grants; A Pub Charity grant has come through to replace the carpet upstairs

Course Etiquette; As members we should all be very proud of our course. If you see someone doing something wrong, please politely let them know what they were doing and the remedy.

A few notes here for errors seen in the past few weeks. If you are taking bottles on the course (mainly beers bottles) please do not throw the tops on the ground. WHY. Our mower blades a finely tuned and bottle tops going through them wrecks them. Carts; Only 2 passengers per cart please, maybe 3 if there are small children, ( not 5 adults as seen last Sunday) . I'm sure all your employers have health and safety rules, and unfortunately the Golf Club is no different. If someone gets harmed doing something stupid with a cart, the committee and President Tony will be held responsible. Not something Tony wants, and I know you will be ill advised to get in his bad books. Thirdly carts and trundlers; Carts should never be driven over tee grounds (no exception) Carts and trundlers should be kept to the side of tees, and when approaching the green, if your ball is not between the bunker and the green then please walk around the bunker. If we all take the shortest path, the area gets worn, which looks untidy, and it makes if difficult to play form those worn areas.

The weather looks good, the course is stunning, so enjoy your Waitangi week end and make plenty of use of our course.

Good Golfing

Coring; Kierane and his team had a good run early in the week and got the course open for golfing today. Thanks to our staff and all who helped out. Friday 12th September; (3 options) 1 Our course is open, so weather permitting, there will be golf at Dannevirke 2 Cape Turnagain are hosting the Annual Firms Day. 18 holes 10 am Morning tea, 11 am Tee off. $30 entry fee; 3 Onga Onga, Our very own Jim Hickey (aka Doug) thinks the weather here tomorrow is going to be horrid, but a bit further away from the ranges at Onga Onga, things look better with rain not predicted until later in the day. Anyone wanting to go north, leave from the Mangatera Hotel car park at 10.45 am, Tee off at Onga at 11.30 am. Saturday 13th September; Kitt, Kerr, Hape, Simpson foursomes. Duty Zane, House Johnny. Zane has a copy of the rules for those who are not sure on them. 11.30am tee off Green Staff: There is a rule that states "Greens Staff have the right of way". There is only so many hours in a week, and the staff have lots to do to get everything groomed. If a tractor is heading towards you, please wait for them to get out of your range before hitting your ball. You wouldn't hit a ball at someone walking towards you, so don't do so to someone on a tractor. They can't jump out of the way of an oncoming ball if that were to happen. If a green is being mowed, wave the green staff to carry on; it only takes a few minutes to mow a green. A couple of minutes' delay for your round of golf is nothing compared to consistent stopping and starting for the staff. Common sense should prevail. If in doubt, " Wait, thank you. Spring weather is really upon us at present. Tomorrow looks ugly, but who knows? If you wish to brave the conditions, there are plenty of options this weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

This has been mentioned previously, so make up a pair and come along for an 11.30 am start. Takapau 18 Hole Strokeplay Tournament. Thanks for the support from the 20 members who went through to Takapau last Saturday. We made up close to a quarter of the field, so great support for our friends at Takapau. The gross winner was J McGillicuddy. Pongaroa were the 2025 winners of the Ruahine Rosebowl. That's it for tonight, folks. Have a good weekend. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

A few bits and pieces to mention. Friday 29th August; Course Closed. The course is closed tomorrow for a Master Builders Ambrose Tournament. There is 90-something players in the field starting on multiple tees, so best we keep clear for them . Friday Boys Mid-Day Competition: Doug has suggested playing in Takapau tomorrow. Gather at the Mangatera Hotel car park for an 11 am departure, 11.30 am tee off at Takapau. Saturday 30th August; Takapau 18-hole Stroke play tournament. (Final Ruahine Rosebowl). The draw for this event is attached (click) . Please ignore the numbers down the left side . The top part of the draw is teeing of Dardanelles with the junior field going off Westwood Ho. It looks like a late start but given they have allowed 11-minute gaps, I am sure the field will start quicker than written. I would suggest being early as I can't see 11-minute times being adhered to. For those interested, a van is leaving Drums at 9.15am. Saturday 30th August; At home, Duty Richie House Angela. Seniors, because of the impending visit by Central and Southern to Cape Turnagain on Tuesday, September 2 nd , we will have a full Club day on Thursday, 4 th , complete with raffles, approaches, etc. On the 9 th September, we are unable to play because of coring. We are looking at a visit to Fielding or Eketahuna on that day. We shall advise next week as to where we are going, and see who are interested. Monday 8th September; Coring. The course will be closed until this job is complete. Kierane will advise when the course is reopened Hole In One; Congratulations Jolanda Van Viliet for holing out on number 14 yesterday. Great effort, Jolanda. Plenty happening as we head into spring golf. Good luck to the 22 heading to Takapau on Saturday. Hopefully, this isn't their last Tournament, but that is a matter for the members to sort. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
