What's on 21/10/21

Bryan Burt - Club Scribe • October 21, 2021

Saturday 23rd October; Labour Week end Card draw 11.30am. (Presidents Cup) some very overdue matches, soon to be scratched if not played. Please check the draw in the men's changing room.

Course; The greens were spiked and sanded on Monday, The tees and surrounds were cored. The course is back up and playing, The greens will recover very quickly, as the sand went in dry, followed by some light rains at night. With some moisture already in the ground, the ducks have all lined up the year for a speedy recovery.

Greenwood Cup (First weekend revue from Craig Nash)

The Dannevirke Greenwood Cup team completed their first weekend of three rounds match play at Onga Onga. A stunning warm Saturday was followed by a brisk Sunday morning with a gentle zephyr whipping over the tops on the snow capped Ruahines to keep us alert.

A very hard draw to start had us opening against the home team Onga Onga -still smarting from us beating on 2020. They were far too good winning 8 /2 with our two points coming from wins by Hamish Prenter and Surfy Hurrell. Up next was a strong Hastings team who won 7.5/2.5 - Timmy Bell and Chris Mason picking up wins and a half from Surfy. Sunday morning we were closer but went down narrowly to Hawkes Bay. This time winners were Pat Harold( with two majestic 3 irons to finish), Brad Dippie (unbeaten on weekend after his only cameo off the bench – his legend lives on as soon as someone is moving slowly enough for him to tell), Greg Vigers and myself.

Overall, a tough start but a solid effort by DVK also including Syd ‘champ’ Hikawai, Richie ‘accountant’ Grey and Pete ‘where the hells my phone’ Gregory. We welcome back Brad ‘Adonis’ Truesdale (in his first appearance back as a newly married wife) for the next 4 rounds at Hastings in 4 weeks time. A big thank you to the supporters who came through to spend time caddying and supporting us. It’s a privilege to represent our club in this long running competition. Craig Nash

Management Committee Meeting Wednesday 20th

Trundler Shed; Again I report that the door is being left unlocked, time and time again, even last Monday when the course was closed. When you exit the shed, you need to push the RED button to lock the door. If everyone makes a habit of locking it when they use it, there should be no more problems, something that will please President Tony and Captain Mike

Ladies Captain, we welcomed back Ladies Captain Glenys after her roof jumping stint.

Charity Grants; The Club has received a wages grant form Mainland for $7400, and we have an application in for wages to mid December for $8400

Pub Charity, We have an accountability to be completed, thereafter the next application can be considered

Charity applications are being applied for, a zero turn roughs mover, that makes mowing around trees easier, plus a card machine, which in turn will be connected to the eft-pos machine, and can produce draws, results etc. VP Vaughan Hales has brought information regarding these back to the committee

EFT-POS, we now have two wireless machines, one upstairs and one currently in the shop, that will in the future be secured into the card cabinet for use of Green fee players and campers

Tractor; A new tractor has been ordered by the committee. This is being funded by the club, rather than Charity. It will appear when shipment permits.

AGM; Our AGM is set down for Monday 6th December at 7.30pm ( Please Note 7.30pm) Can anyone sending information or emails about this meeting, please ensure we are all using the same start time. The nomination box will be upstairs from tomorrow. As always we ask members to consider making themselves available to serve our Club nest year.

Upcoming Events;

Closing Day Saturday 13th November, Golf first followed by Presentation of trophies, and a BBQ. Last years event was very well supported, so we ask for your support again this year.

Greenwood Cup, Rounds 4-7 will be played 20th - 21st November.

A thought, if any member is renewing a ride on mower, and has an old machine with a catcher, please consider donating or selling it to the Golf Club. They are very useful for picking up cories, so as such, isn't required for mowing services, just firing up twice a year for picking up cores. Any offers please contact either James Walker or Roger Ransom from the greens committee .

Request from any IT specialists. Earlier this year I replaced my laptop. I send out What's On by copying and pasting the names from an old email. I want to set up a group that I can edit. If you feel you can help, please flick me an email, and we can arrange to meet, and try and sort out my delimit. I'm not that computer savvy to be fair, so don't thing we can do this over the phone.

That's the round up for this week folk. Thanks Craig for your write up. If you are traveling away for Labour weekend, travel safely, and if you are playing golf away from our Club, good luck (and don't forget to spread the word about our peace of paradise.)

Good Golfing,

Our new carts are there to use and be respected. Last Sunday (unknown driver) obviously drove up to another cart on number 14 tee and tried to push it, leaving black tyre marks and holes in the lime track. Just dumb! Appreciate we have visitors and members using our carts, but any such behaviour will be dealt to by the Management Committee. "Use them, don't abuse them" Greenstaff; With Kierane being a fully qualified Green Keeper, the committee and he decided it was a good time to start another Apprentice. The role was advertised before Christmas, and so it is good to welcome Liam Making to our Club. Great to have you on board, and all the best for the next few years, gaining a qualification. Kierane Given the amount of water we now have available, our greens are being well watered. Being softer than normal, please be aware of pitch marks on the Greens. They may not always be yours, but please make a habit of repairing any you see. Thanks That wraps up this week. Have a good weekend, and hopefully the weather is not as bad as predicted. Good Golfing,👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Great opportunity to try out the game, introduce family and friends to golf, or hone a few new skills over 9 holes. The weather gods have been much kinder to us, than in some areas of the country. With approximately 112 mils of rain this month, the course has gone from a dry, plenty of run summer track to a lush green autumn track in a couple of weeks. Plenty of visitors keeping Pat busy, so come on out and enjoy our great course. See you soon. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
