No 10 Tee, (across the road)
At Saturday’s Match Committee meeting it was resolved we consult with members about changing hole 10 from stroke hole 10 to stroke to stroke hole 8 and thus hole 18 will become stroke hole 10. The rationale being, since moving the white tee across the road and based on 3300 cards hole 10 is playing 1.21 over par and as such is the 6th hardest hole on the course. Hole 18 is playing 1.10 over par and is the 10th hardest hole on the course. Prior to the change, when the white tee was in front of the office and based on statistics from over 10,000 cards, hole 10 played 1.07 over par and was the 12th hardest hole on the course, at the same time hole 18 played 1.08 over par and was the 11th hardest hole on the course. Although hole 10 is the 6th hardest hole, the 3 hardest holes on the course are 11, 12 and 16, therefore stroke hole 8 is the lowest number available. The Match Committee would appreciate feedback on the proposal.
Ladies v Men NZGA Ruling;
The information I gave at the Match Committee meeting on Saturday was incorrect. This is the advice I received from NZ Golf (WHS World Handicap System)
Addition of strokes is different under WHS whereby before WHS, in a Nett competition, any strokes were given to the players who played from the more difficult course calculated in the difference in course ratings, under WHS any additional strokes are given to the players who play the course with the higher par.
Therefore, as the men’s par is 71 and the women’s par is 73, any women playing in the field will add two additional strokes to their Playing Handicaps.
The men and women will each use their own scorecards and relevant stroke holes and compare their nett scores. A nett 4 beats a nett 5, regardless of the par of the hole. On the two holes that are par 5s for the women and 4s for the men, the women may feel disadvantaged, but that is why they receive the extra two strokes.
In a stableford competition no additional shots are given.
