What's On 23 February 2024?

Bryan Burt Club Scribe • February 22, 2024

Saturday 24th February;  Card draw 11.30am Three tee start this week, as there is a wedding behind number 9 at 3.30pm, so we won't use number 10 as a starting hole. Start only on 1,5 and 16. The front nine will close at 1pm please. Match Committee duty, Joe and Stephen

Downstairs Bar;  Saturdays prize giving will be in the Downstairs bar, as the wedding is upstairs. It is Rainier & Marks wedding Saturday, with several members involved. Our best wishes to the happy couple.

Sunday 25th February, Golf HB Pennants Round 1. We have four teams playing this year, with Championship 1 at home (11.30am tee off. No 1 tee is booked for 6 start times, number 10 for 3 start times. Pennants has right of way) Championship 3 are away at Hastings GC, Handicap 2 at Hawkes Bay, and Handicap 4 at Onga Onga.

Monday 26th February;  President Peter and his staff will be pouring the concrete at the entrance way. For safety reasons the entrance will be closed between 10am and 2pm. If you want to play golf, thats ok, but you need to be through the entrance before 10am, and cannot come out until 2pm. There will be concrete trucks and a pump on site, so please keep clear.

Marae Golf Tournament;    A very good day on Saturday with a field of 80 players. The Dave Barber Memorial Cup was won by Johnny Edwards who shot an 83, not bad for someone turning 86 next month. He was a hugely popular winner. The Marae trophy was won by the Makirikiri team of Johnny Edwards, Rhea Hazners, Jamie Hazners, Tony Peeti, Chappy Maniapoto and Stephen Paewai.

I’d just like to acknowledge the Dannevirke Golf Club, the Greens staff, our hosts from Whiti Te Ra Marae and all the Club members who supported the tournament.

Over $3,000.00 was raised for the Whiti Te Ra Marae.

Subscriptions; (From Miranda)   Annual Subs will be charged out on 1 March. Might be a good time for everyone that pays by installment to update the amount they are paying:

weekly payment is now $12.00

fortnightly payment $24.00

monthly payment $52.00

There are still some members paying $10.00 per week - this amount is two years out of date. Can members please check to make sure that we have a current email or postal address on file. A member list with address and email details will be available in the shop from Wednesday 21 Feb – please make any changes on this list and I will amended the records in Club Manager. Thanks Miranda

Club Shop;  We ask members please to purchase drinks and food required during their round of golf before they tee off. The shop will be locked when unmanned, for security reasons.

Trundler Shed; A further reminder to members who use the trundler shed. The code pad opens the shed, but when leaving the lock button needs to be pushed, otherwise the lock is still on open, and the door can just be used without the code. Again for security reasons.

Championships; A final reminder, draws will be done next week for our matchplay to commence on Saturday 2nd March. If you don't wish to be included in the all in for Intermediate and Junior grades, please contact Captain Mike urgently. on  mikematthews058@gmail.com The Open Championship qualifying rounds have concluded, and the seeding has been finalized.

Farm and Drive way;  Our thanks to farm Committee member Roger Ransom (and helpers) for organising and executing the removal of water from under and beside the driveway. The water will now head to the large open drain under the fence on the eastern side. An open drain goes through the paddock on the right as you come in the drive, which will be fenced to keep stock out. Two lines of novaflo have extended into the paddock on the left, to drain a couple of springs, into the culverts under the road. In the next week or so, the ground that has been leveled between the road and the fence will be sown into grass, so please slow down and pass oncoming traffic on the road, rather than running over the newly sown areas. Fences will be reinstated as soon as possible.

Much of this work has been made possible with proceeds from the house on Tamaki River Road. Some of it maintenance, and some long overdue improvements around the farm and course.

Plenty of opportunity to get some golf in this weekend, with Club day and Pennants. Please show respect for our wedding couple and their guests, (give them space) Have a great weekend.

Good Golfing👍

Saturday, April 25th, Anzac Day. Golf will commence at 12 noon, as we ask members not to play on the morning of Anzac Day. 11.45 am card draw. 12 noon tee off. Best member stableford of the day wins the Waitahora Cup, plus the men play the ladies for a Shield. Aggregate Stableford points. Duty Zane House Gillian. Special Event: We have a guest speaker at 4 pm. All welcome. Coronation Cup Finals Sat 23rd & Sun 24th May; Porongahau has been confirmed as the host for this year's final. Team announcement later. Trundler Shed; The committee are concerned at the continual abuse of this shed. It is supposed to be a locked place to keep clubs secure if you don't want to take them home after each round. Security is consistently compromised as the door is left unlocked and held open with the steel bar while everyone is out playing. Not much security when that happens. Last night's discussion suggested that we cease to provide this service after 1st June. Anyone with concerns etc regarding this move are asked to send a reply to sender email to me, which will be collated and considered at our next meeting. Subscriptions : Bailey reported last night that all members who pay annually have been sent an email invoice. Weekly and monthly payers will be receiving their invoices shortly. If you have a message to increase or decrease your payments, please action as soon as possible. It is very time-consuming allocating these payments, so if you account is in credit and you are asked to stop payments, please do so; likewise, if you are behind with payments, check your balance, divide it by five, and that is what you owe to be clear by 30th September, being the end of our financial year. Any queries, please email dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz , or talk to Patrick, please. A lot of rain this week, so if you are driving a cart, please keep to the tracks. Number 17 fairway is not to be driven on, please use the track to the right and walk across to your ball if you are not at the top of the hill. Clearly, two carts made quite a mess there last Sunday and lost traction on the hill. In short, Don't Go There. Have a great weekend, folks, and we hope to get a good muster for our Anzac Day event. Final hopes are still there for 2 of the teams. Coronation Cup Result: With 6 points and 28 wins, Dannevirke are into the finals alongside Pongaroa, Napier, and Hawkes Bay Golf. Waitahora Cup for the players with the most Stableford points. Men v Ladies Shield on aggregate stableford. As was mentioned at the Annual General Meeting, we ask members to please refrain from playing prior to midday, as a mark of respect to our fallen soldiers. Again, if you can get to Herbertville on Saturday, please do, as you will be well looked after. Best wishes to members playing pennants on Sunday. Have a great weekend. All four teams travel for this round. Handicap 2 & 3 still have a chance of making the finals! Summer Cup; Amrit and I did battle last Saturday. Finally, I have my name on a club trophy. Great match, thanks, Amrit. Sisters Club, Queen's Birthday in Patea; S orry for missing a number of people at the proposed meeting a couple of weeks ago, I assumed it would be a normal Saturday and turned up at 5 pm to discover only a small number of people played that day, and most of those that did had gone home. I’m at golf this Saturday, so we’ll have a meeting following the prize giving. From my informal enquiries, it looks like we’ll have a group of about 24 going to Patea. I’ve booked accommodation at the Kerry Lane motel in Hawera. I’m currently looking at transport options. The most likely is a couple of vans. We will then require a couple of drivers for Saturday and Sunday. Regards Stephen Best wishes to our Coronation Cup team at Takapau, let's hope the cyclone heads out east and gives us a miss. For those turned off by the weather, there is always the Masters at Augusta to watch from the dry comfort of your lounge chair. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
