2026 Barry Illsley Sponsored 72 Hole Matchplay Open Tournament.   Preliminary work is underway for this tournament. Dates yet to be confirmed, but it looks like the Wellington Anniversary Weekend in January, starting on Friday, and concluding on Sunday. 


Presidents Cup Final: to be contested between Timmy Bell and Denzil Treacy Junior.

Ladies Shoot Out;  Completed today with Margaret Treacy winning from Margaret Stephenson. Another great day from all accounts. 


On Course Tee Signs: A big shout-out to our tee sponsors for their continued support of our Club. With business changes, we have 5 tee signs available for advertising your business. If any member wishes to take up one of these signs, please contact our Secretary Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz. 


Annual General Meeting;  Monday 8th December. Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees.  Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM.

 

At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf.  Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures.  Travel safely and play well.

What's On 29 January 2026?

Evening all, Saturday, January 31st; Card draw 11.30 am Duty Zane, House Scott. Summer Cup matches as advised last week to be continued . Friday, February 6th (Waitangi Day) 11.30 am tee off; Maori v the rest match. Always a great day with plenty of before and after banter. Golf HB Pennants 2026. Dannevirke has 4 teams playing in this competition, in the Championship 1 & 3 grades, plus Handicap 2 & 3 grades. These are teams of 6 playing match play all over the Golf HB Region, commencing Sunday 22nd February. Any new members interested in being part of a team, please advise Zane on Saturday. NZ Ambrose Golf Cup, round 12 qualifier at Saint Andrews Golf Club, Hamilton. Congratulations to "Young Boys" Te Wai, Graiden, Rani, and Eru Hauiti of their 1st place last weekend. 68 Gross 57.5 nett. Off to the finals Twilight Golf; Don't forget Twilight Golf is played every Thursday, 4.30 to 5.30 pm tee off during daylight savings months. Great opportunity to try out the game, introduce family and friends to golf, or hone a few new skills over 9 holes. The weather gods have been much kinder to us, than in some areas of the country. With approximately 112 mils of rain this month, the course has gone from a dry, plenty of run summer track to a lush green autumn track in a couple of weeks. Saturday 24th January; Summer Cup Round 1 Matchplay. Duty Match Committee House Baz Mott Summer Cup Draw; Byes, Johnny Edwards, Bryan Burt, Amrit Prasad, Tama Petera. G Freeman v D Treacy Jnr, S Hikawai v Marg Treacy, Z Gregory v T Neilson, B Williams v T Peeti, V Hales v R Henricksen, J Bassett v B Mott, C Peck v S Beale, R Martin v T Albert, P Drummond v T Crawford, T Bell v N Evans, D Maken v M Filer, Billy Te Ture v M Matthews. Barrie Illsley Building sponsored 54 Hole Matchplay Tournament; A great weekend was had by all. Starting Friday with the Qualifying round, Pat Harold took out the Gross prize, with Mark Illsley the nett. The five par 3 approaches plus a wild card (me) went 100 metres down the 18th for a chip out for $1000. Congratulation Pat for your win here. Division winners Group 1, Tama Petera beat Micheal Seatter, Group 2 Caleb Jensen (Cape Turnagain) beat Tewai Hauiti, Group 3 Mike Matthews beat Barry Illsley, Group 4 Eru Hauiti beat Ben Neilson, and group 5 Hamish Illsley beat Basil Prestege (visitor). Friday 16th - Sunday 18th; Barry Illsley Building sponsored 54-hole Matchplay Tournament. This year we have 5 mens groups of 8, and one ladies' group of 4. The event has right of way during the weekend., but there is still ample room for members (limited carts). Friday is qualifying, commencing on the number 1 tee at 9.30 with the final tee time being 10.40 am. Saturday will have one round of Matchplay starting mid-morning, and Sunday there will be two rounds of Matchplay with an earlier start. Coronation Cup, Zone play Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th April, Finals 23rd & 24th May. Greenwood Cup, Rounds 1-3 at Dannevirke, October 3 & 4th, Rounds 4-7 Maraenui 31st October & 1st November. Open Championship Qualifying, Sat 21st February and Sat 14th March . Update # 13 Lands End. Red Pegs have been placed along the stump line, indicating a Hazard. Players may find their ball and play out (No Penalty) or if the ball cannot be found, play another ball from point of entry with a one-shot penalty . President Peter advises there is a large quantity of pine cones through the harvested area. Members are welcome to go down and bag them up for their own use. Vehicle entry across the course, and under the bridge by number 14, please. Beware of golfers and golf balls; entry at your own risk.
