Saturday 27th September;  Club day draw at 11.30am. Duty Joe Clarke, House Stephen Paewai

Saturday 27th September;  CHB 27 Hole Stroke play Tournament.

Sunday 28th September;  Beginning of daylight saving. Move your clock forward one hour, or be late for golf!

Saturday 4th October;  Ladies Club Championship finals. Playing 36 holes and commencing at 8.30 am. (Finalists to be named in next week's What's On )

Wednesday 22nd October;   Ladies Dannevirke Pharmacy Shoot Out. This commences with 19 ladies teeing off on number one. Number 10 tee remains open or number 5, but the ladies' field has full right of way.

Sunday 2nd November; SHB 27 Hole Mixed Foursomes (Cancelled). The decision has been made that this event may well have run its course, with only a handful of pairs playing. We are all aware of the history and how, in the 1970s, you had to get your name up early to get into the field. Unfortunately, we no longer live in the 1970s.  We may be able to revive this or a similar event in the future, so we look for ideas going forward. We need people who will walk the walk, not just talk the talk on this one. Starting a fresh, will require a major commitment, so don't expect someone! else to do it, get involved.

Battle of the Saddle Shield;    Battle Report – Dannevirke vs. Manawatu

Last Sunday, ten of Dannevirke’s finest stormed into Palmerston North to take on Manawatu’s best at their home course. Flying the Dannevirke flag were Pat Harold, Brad Truesdale, William Harold, Angus Findlay, Chris Mason, Rhys Harold, Clay Lochead, Brad Dippie, Lance Hambrook, and John Garnett.

The format was singles and four-ball, with 15 points on the line. The conditions? Slippery greens and the usual “welcome to Palmy” howling wind — not exactly golfer-friendly, but no one ever said this was supposed to be easy.

Before the first tee-off, team manager/event organiser/social media coordinator (and part-time motivational speaker) Craig Nash fired up the troops with a rousing speech that was part Braveheart, part Tony Robbins. With spirits high, the boys headed out.

The matches were tight all day, momentum swinging like a dodgy driver off the first tee. But when the dust settled, Dannevirke held its nerve, claiming a hard-fought 8.5 to 6.5 victory.

Not only did we take down Manawatu on their home track, but we also levelled the all-time series at three wins apiece. Safe to say, the beers tasted even better afterwards.

Next year we’ll host them at Dannevirke, where we’ll aim to tip the scales firmly in our favour. In the meantime, the focus turns to the Greenwood Cup in Waipukurau in a couple of weeks, where hopefully we can continue this form!   Regards Brad Dippie. (Selector, Chat GPT reporter)

Eagles Golfing Society of HB Inc;  I have 20 tickets left to sell for the Halberg Foundation raffle, with first prize being a round of golf for four persons at Cape Kidnappers. I will have these at the club Friday and possibly Saturday, subject to sales. Tickets $5 each.

Annual General Meeting;  Monday 8th December. A reminder from Gail for those who submit reports for the Annual Report: please start your preparation and have it to Gail before the end of October. Committees. These include Match, House, Greens, Management, Ladies. This is your Club, and we are looking for some of our younger members to put their hand up for committee duties. It is not by any means onerous, but it is time for a changing of the guard. I am absolutely sure we oldies will gladly let you take our place at the committee tables . Please think about this and put your hand up.

That wraps it for tonight, folks. Hopefully, the wind abates so we can enjoy a game of golf over the weekend.

Good Golfing👍

Saturday, April 25th, Anzac Day. Golf will commence at 12 noon, as we ask members not to play on the morning of Anzac Day. 11.45 am card draw. 12 noon tee off. Best member stableford of the day wins the Waitahora Cup, plus the men play the ladies for a Shield. Aggregate Stableford points. Duty Zane House Gillian. Special Event: We have a guest speaker at 4 pm. All welcome. Coronation Cup Finals Sat 23rd & Sun 24th May; Porongahau has been confirmed as the host for this year's final. Team announcement later. Trundler Shed; The committee are concerned at the continual abuse of this shed. It is supposed to be a locked place to keep clubs secure if you don't want to take them home after each round. Security is consistently compromised as the door is left unlocked and held open with the steel bar while everyone is out playing. Not much security when that happens. Last night's discussion suggested that we cease to provide this service after 1st June. Anyone with concerns etc regarding this move are asked to send a reply to sender email to me, which will be collated and considered at our next meeting. Subscriptions : Bailey reported last night that all members who pay annually have been sent an email invoice. Weekly and monthly payers will be receiving their invoices shortly. If you have a message to increase or decrease your payments, please action as soon as possible. It is very time-consuming allocating these payments, so if you account is in credit and you are asked to stop payments, please do so; likewise, if you are behind with payments, check your balance, divide it by five, and that is what you owe to be clear by 30th September, being the end of our financial year. Any queries, please email dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz , or talk to Patrick, please. A lot of rain this week, so if you are driving a cart, please keep to the tracks. Number 17 fairway is not to be driven on, please use the track to the right and walk across to your ball if you are not at the top of the hill. Clearly, two carts made quite a mess there last Sunday and lost traction on the hill. In short, Don't Go There. Have a great weekend, folks, and we hope to get a good muster for our Anzac Day event. Great match, thanks, Amrit. Sisters Club, Queen's Birthday in Patea; S orry for missing a number of people at the proposed meeting a couple of weeks ago, I assumed it would be a normal Saturday and turned up at 5 pm to discover only a small number of people played that day, and most of those that did had gone home. I’m at golf this Saturday, so we’ll have a meeting following the prize giving. From my informal enquiries, it looks like we’ll have a group of about 24 going to Patea. I’ve booked accommodation at the Kerry Lane motel in Hawera. I’m currently looking at transport options. The most likely is a couple of vans. We will then require a couple of drivers for Saturday and Sunday. Regards Stephen Best wishes to our Coronation Cup team at Takapau, let's hope the cyclone heads out east and gives us a miss. For those turned off by the weather, there is always the Masters at Augusta to watch from the dry comfort of your lounge chair. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
