Sunday 11th May;  GHB Pennant finals in Napier, Our Handicap Division 4 team, lead by TP is in the finals playing Onga Onga.

Greenwood Cup 2025;  With the Pennant competition winding up for the year, it would be good to see the players wishing to play Greenwood this year, keeping playing golf over the next few months, and leading into the first round in October. We will get something going after the Championship finals on May 17th.  Keen to get any thoughts from prospective players over the next couple of weeks.  Captains Zane & Peter are keen to hear from you.

Thank you too all who have participated in this years Club Championships. The level of involvement is still at a good level, and although a few games get forfeited, our participation rate is still very good across the Club. The Match committee had some discussion last Monday around Championships. While summer and autumn golf has become very popular, it has jammed a lot of golf into the first four or five months of the year. This includes our Summer Cup, GHB Pennants, Coronation Cup, and three rounds of the Ruahine Rosebowl. and Championships. We will look to use more of May and possibly June for some of our competitions before winter really sets in. In regards to Golf Hawkes Bay, I can assure you, the programme is decided by the 17 club delegates. We sometimes go into battle for our Club, but at the end of the day, it is a democracy, and the majority rules when put to a vote. I don't see any appetite from Golf Hawkes Bay clubs to go back into winter golf for the likes of Pennants and Coronation Cup at this stage.

For all involved in Matches this weekend, good luck. To Tony Peeti and his team, good luck in the Pennats final.

Good Golfing, 👍

Evening all, Saturday, June 28th; Sattrup & Brannigan Round 2 4bbb. 11.30 am Card draw Duty Match Joe Clark, House Stephen Paewai. By now, all first-round Sattrup & Brannigan matches should be completed. If not, and you are still to play round 1, please inform those waiting for round 2. Captains will cancel any unplayed matches if no communication is forthcoming. Sunday, July 6th, Porongahau 27-hole Stroke Play tournament. Although not part of the Ruahine Rosebowl series, I am sure they will welcome players from Dannevirke. I would suggest contacting them sometime this week, as you may not get in the field if you just turn up next Sunday. Carts: The Club has recently purchased two new carts for our fleet. The Management Committee now have two of the older carts available for Tender. Please email Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz before Wednesday, 16th July, with your tender price and the particular cart you are tendering for. The Management committee meet on Wednesday 16th and will notify the successful tender. If a cart is sold to a local member, storage and recharging facilities may be available in our cart shed, with an annual fee to cover costs. Insurance would be at the owner's expense. As mentioned above, with two new carts coming on board, we are gradually replacing and increasing the number of carts on our course. Our originals were purchased approximately 25 years ago.. A reminder to Club members, please, these carts are an asset belonging to your Golf Club. They assist in bringing more green fee players to our course, as well as group bookings, plus use by local members. If you see any carts being driven dangerously on our course, please call out the said driver there and then if possible, alternatively notify Patrick in the Pro Shop. Like any machinery, they are there to be used, not abused. With School holidays commencing tomorrow, there is an opportunity over the next two weeks to bring younger family members out to the course and give them a try at Golf. Remember Patrick is available for lessons, to encourage the next generation of golfers, as well as attempting to fix the bad habits of current golfers. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Saturday June 14th; Wiffin Cup Round 2 matchplay. Duty, Match Bernie, House Basil A subtle reminder from our captains, that some round 1 Wiffin Cup matches are still outstanding. Please get these completed as soon as possible. Please let the person waiting to play the winner know what is happening, so they are aware. Sattrup & Brannigan; The draw is up in the club house. The weather was not that great last Saturday for first round matches, but again please keep in contact with your opponents, and get these games played before round 2 on June 28th. Given we are now in winter conditions, please use metal tracks etc where possible, especially if you are in a cart or on a bike. Skid marks take forever to grow grass in the winter, and your fellow golfers won't be happy playing off the bare dirt. Not a lot to report tonight, so I'll sign off.
