Results;  From last Saturday hosting Feilding for our annual inter club. Unfortunately the Chadwick Trophy returned to Feilding with their 19 player aggregate being 33, versus Dannevirke's 32 aggregate 31.64. Brendon & Wendy Poole came over and played for Feilding, and both played very well, we could have done with their scores!

Sunday, sadly only three pairs turned out for the mixed foursomes, but in true club spirit, they went ahead with it, albeit only playing 18 holes because of the rain that came in around lunch time. Winners Rodney Henricksen and Marilyn Hall

 

Saturday 14th November / Sunday 15th November; Greenwood Cup Rounds 4-8 Maraenui Golf Club at home, Card draw 11.30am

 

Saturday 21st November, Closing day, commencing with card draw at 11.30am

Trophy presentations 4.30, BBQ 5pm. Wives, husbands and partners welcome.

 

Saturday 28th / Sunday 29th November;  Final GHB Coronation Cup being hosted at Dannevirke.  Yet to be confirmed, but I believe they play 36 holes Saturday and 18 early Sunday. Captain Mike has requested assistance with catering and bar duties both days please. We need to supply lunch Saturday for 48 players plus caddies and officials, so around 60 people, plus some form of flight lunch Sunday following the 18 holes of play. Mike has enough to do without being the catering manager so please offers of help will be gratefully received.

Managing Licensed Premises

 

Tararua REAP is hosting the above course on Saturday 28 November, covers such things as Managing Licensed Premises, Host Responsibilities and learning and demonstrating a knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. This will lead to obtaining a Managers Certificate. Ideally the Club could do with 2 or 3 people with a Managers Certificate, particularly when we host private functions. Best of luck to our Greenwood team this weekend, as they play the final four rounds of this years competition. Closing day, is an often asked for, but previously poorly supported event. Mike has had all the trophies engraved, so asks that our members get behind the idea of a prize giving, and stay around to receive their respective cups, plus share a Club BBQ. As mentioned above spouses are also welcome.

The Coronation Cup finals are a Club hosting event, not just a Club Captain hosting event.  While there should be personnel from GHB to record scores etc., they like to get out on Course and watch play, so we need starters, office people to record results as they come off the course, plus caterers. I'm sure Mike would be more than happy if someone said they would take on the chief cook and bottle washing job, but I will leave those offers up to you as members to take directly to Mike.

 

Unless someone else is inclined to write What's On next week, it will be taking a break, as scribe has a busy week playing The Hills, Wednesday Millbrook Thursday and Arrowtown Friday. Also meeting up with Sir Bob Charles, who is drawn in Max Charmleys Four at The Hills. Looking forward to the scenery and parting company with some golf balls  .

Saturday 14th February; Club day at 11.30 am, Cards in please by 11.15. House Committee Gillian. Please keep going withthe Summer Cup Matches. Monday 16th February; Match Committee Meeting Mangatera Hotel 5 pm Result; On Friday, 6th, we played the annual Maori v Pakeha competition. 55 in the field, with a win this year to our Maori members with a Stableford average of 32.7 versus the Pakeha,& friends team with 29.1. Great win, folks. After 4 years of this competition, you have finally cracked it. Golf HB Pennants; Competition starts Sunday 22nd. Teams and Managers this year are Championship 1, Willie Harold, Championship 3, and Handicap 2, Tama Petera, Handicap 3, Tony Peeti. Any members wishing to play Pennants who have not already done so, please contact Captain Zane or any of the Managers. Veterans; We are now receiving entries for the Classic Days. (Dannevirke and Waipukurau). If you want to get an entry in, now is a good time. Monday/Tuesday 2nd/3rd March at Waipukurau, Thursday/Friday 5th/6th March at Dannevirke. Please note: this is for the very first time, a 9-hole competition, which is only available at Dannevirke. To enter, follow the formula as follows: Go to NZ vet’s website, Go to Homepage, Click on Entry Forms, Answer the questions that have an asterisk. e.g., Email, Name, Golf ID, Phone No, Gender, 18 or 9 hole option, Amount of payment, which is $60 at Waipukurau, $50 at Dannevirke, $30 at Dannevirke 9 Holes. SUBMIT. If all else fails, contact Warren Ridge or Gus Terry. Marae Tournament: This year’s tournament is on Saturday, 28 February. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go to the Makirikiri Marae. You can enter by putting your name on the list is in the foyer. I’ve been given a certificate for a round of golf for 4 people at Cape Kidnappers. It has been decided to raffle this prize; tickets are available from Stephen Paewai, Tim Bell or Patrick Harold. (Notebook on the bar on competition days) The raffle will be drawn during the prize giving for the Marae Tournament. Regards Stephen. Carts: We have already had two disappointing incidents this year. Our new carts are there to use and be respected. Last Sunday (unknown driver) obviously drove up to another cart on number 14 tee and tried to push it, leaving black tyre marks and holes in the lime track. Just dumb! Appreciate we have visitors and members using our carts, but any such behaviour will be dealt to by the Management Committee. "Use them, don't abuse them" Greenstaff; With Kierane being a fully qualified Green Keeper, the committee and he decided it was a good time to start another Apprentice. The role was advertised before Christmas, and so it is good to welcome Liam Making to our Club. Great to have you on board, and all the best for the next few years, gaining a qualification. Kierane Given the amount of water we now have available, our greens are being well watered. Being softer than normal, please be aware of pitch marks on the Greens. House duty, Stephen. Summer Cup matches to be played if possible, please. Marae Tournament: This year’s tournament is on Saturday, 28 February. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go to the Makirikiri Marae. You can enter by putting your name on the list in the foyer. What's On 29 January 2026?

Evening all, Saturday, January 31st; Card draw 11.30 am Duty Zane, House Scott. Summer Cup matches as advised last week to be continued . Friday, February 6th (Waitangi Day) 11.30 am tee off; Maori v the rest match. Always a great day with plenty of before and after banter. Golf HB Pennants 2026. Dannevirke has 4 teams playing in this competition, in the Championship 1 & 3 grades, plus Handicap 2 & 3 grades. These are teams of 6 playing match play all over the Golf HB Region, commencing Sunday 22nd February. Any new members interested in being part of a team, please advise Zane on Saturday. NZ Ambrose Golf Cup, round 12 qualifier at Saint Andrews Golf Club, Hamilton. Congratulations to "Young Boys" Te Wai, Graiden, Rani, and Eru Hauiti of their 1st place last weekend. 68 Gross 57.5 nett. Off to the finals Twilight Golf; Don't forget Twilight Golf is played every Thursday, 4.30 to 5.30 pm tee off during daylight savings months. Great opportunity to try out the game, introduce family and friends to golf, or hone a few new skills over 9 holes. The weather gods have been much kinder to us, than in some areas of the country. With approximately 112 mils of rain this month, the course has gone from a dry, plenty of run summer track to a lush green autumn track in a couple of weeks.
