Whats on 11 July 2024?

Bryan But- club scribe • July 11, 2024

 Evening all,

Saturday 13th July;  Card draw 11.30am Please continue with Wiffin Cup and Sattrup & Brannigan Matches. Match Committee duty, Zane & Bryan House Bazil

Presidents Cup; draw will be completed and in the shop Saturday morning

Sisters Club;  Meeting with a beer, Saturday after prize giving. A revue of the 2024 event, and the start of planning for 2025 in Blenheim

Match Committee Meeting;  Sunday 4pm at the Clubhouse.

House Committee;  Assistance required Sunday 4pm to empty the tables and Piano from the dining area, so the carpets can be cleaned Monday

House Committee Meeting;   A member of the Committee is only on duty on a Saturday so on other days could someone take responsibility and ensure the lounge area and bar are left tidy and lights and heaters are turned off. If you get a chance please restock the bar, particularly the main items.

The duty person has sole discretion about the closing time. We did discuss that after a certain time quart bottles will no longer be served and only stubbies will be available.

The bar will only open at the end of play.

Smokers please keep to the back of the club house, not the entrance and definitely not in the building. Please keep the area tidy, it’s not a good look when we have visiting players and cigarette butts litter the grounds.

There is food in the kitchen fridge, we have no idea who it belongs to, if it’s still there on Sunday it will be binned.

I appreciate the above comments may be taken as negative, please remember we’re all volunteers, we all want the Club to succeed and we all want to contribute. Please reciprocate by showing a little consideration for all members of the Club and the Club itself.

Saturday 27th July, The Aotea Sports Club are having their prize giving on Saturday 27 July so the upstairs lounge will be closed on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 July.

The frosts and great winter days this week will have helped the course dry out. The newly germinated grass is relatively obvious to most, that being the light green areas. Please where possible, take bikes, carts and trundlers around these areas, to assist with keeping this grass alive over winter. Again if you see someone take their trundler between the green and a bunker, or over tee's, ask "didn't you get the email" which is a friendly reminder that we shouldn't do this. Likewise any bare patches, they only get worse if we keep walking over them, please walk around them.

The forecast is not too bad for the week end, so if time allows, come on out and get a game in.

Good Golfing👍

Saturday 25th October; Club day draw 11.15 am, Tee off 11.30 am. Duty, Richie, House, Angela. 2026 Barry Illsley Sponsored 72 Hole Matchplay Open Tournament. Preliminary work is underway for this tournament. Dates yet to be confirmed, but it looks like the Wellington Anniversary Weekend in January, starting on Friday, and concluding on Sunday. Presidents Cup Final: t o be contested between Timmy Bell and Denzil Treacy Junior. Sattrup & Brannigan, 2025 winners Mark Rosocaker & Chappy Maniapoto. Congratulations guys. Ladies Shoot Out; Completed today with Margaret Treacy winning from Margaret Stephenson. Another great day from all accounts. On Course Tee Signs: A big shout-out to our tee sponsors for their continued support of our Club. With business changes, we have 5 tee signs available for advertising your business. If any member wishes to take up one of these signs, please contact our Secretary Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz. Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December. Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees. Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM. At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf. Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures. Travel safely and play well. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Saturday 18th October; Club day. Card draw at 11.15am tee off 11.30am Duty House Tony Saturday 8th November; Closing day and Trophy presentations. Captain Zane, sternly requests all competitions to be completed by then so trophies can be presented. Plenty of daylight now, so please make an effort. Saturday 29th November; (Date Change) Fielding Interclub @ Feilding. Ladies Club Championships; The ladies concluded their Champions on Saturday after being rained, hailed and thundered on the week before. Congratulations , too Margaret Stephenson, (Senior) Sue Burlace (Intermediate) and Kerrie Gundersen (Junior). Runners up being , Angela Farrell, Margaret Treacy and Rainier Arnold. Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3; Conditions at Waipukurau Golf Club were very pleasant for two rounds of golf Saturday and one Sunday. The rough at Waipukurau has for years has been dense clover and still is, which can be deceiving, as the ball looks ok, but the clover can be difficult to hit from. Saturday morning the team played Karamu having a 7 to 3 win, followed in the afternoon with an 8.5 to 1.5 win against Central Hawkes Bay. Sunday morning we came up against the first of the city Clubs Napier, and were defeated 7 to 3. Two matches concluded with draws on the 18th, and 3 finished on the 17th, so it wasn't all bad. The current standings are Hastings first on 6 points with 27.5 games, Onga Onga second also on 6 points and 23 games, Napier third with 4 points and 20 games, with Dannevirke fourth on 4 points and 18.5 games. Looking forward to the final four rounds at Hastings Golf Club on November 15th & 16th . Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December at 7.30pm. A reminder to Committee chairman and others to have your reports to Gail by next weekend (Labour Weekend) for the Annual Report. With daylight saving now in progress, encourage any friends or relatives that are keen to maybe consider a Summer Subscription. (Runs the duration of daylight saving) For membership forms see Patrick at Harold Golf Shop, or email Bailey at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz . If your game is off colour at present, again see Patrick for a lesson. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
