golf clubs on ground

Friday 13th September;  Firms day at Cape Turnagain. 11am Cup of Tea, 12 noon tee off;

Saturday 14th September;   Kitt, Kerr, Hape Simpson Foursomes. For the newer members, this competition is alternate shots, with the 2 handicaps added and divided by 2. You play a net round, and at the end the best net wins Kitt, etc etc If you haven't organised a partner, ask the Match committee duty persons to make up a pairing. Duty is Mark & Joe, House Dipak

Saturday 28th September;  Visit from Manawatu Golf Club. We believe they have a bus with 40 players coming. It would be nice to have as many from Dannevirke to host our guests

Coring;  Our staff and helpers cored our greens and tees on Tuesday. Our thanks to all who assisted. Kierane informed me the course will be prepared and ready for play from 11am tomorrow. Please let common sense prevail around areas that have been affected by coring or machinery tracks. The rules of Golf cover such situations.

Congratulations;  Speaking of Kierane, Our heartiest congratulations to Kierane, Emma, and older brother Ario, on the arrival of their twin daughters and sisters Stella and Brielle.  All is well with mother, father and daughters. Kierane will be taking some time off when the twins get to come home, with plans and people in place to keep our course groomed.

Rosebowl;  The Ruahine Rosebowl competition was completed last weekend at the Takapau 30 Hole Tournament, with Pongaroa being the 2024 winners. Can I say, there was a little bit of disappointment and embarrassment shown to our captain Mike and Zane at the weekend. Many of you said you were going to this event, and Mike phoned through to secure numbers for our members, then on Saturday Zane waiting patiently at the Mangatera Hotel at 7am, to take a ute load of players up. Only thing is, not one turned up!, so while we needed at least three, we only had two players from Dannevirke. The final blow being, at least 6 of you played at Dannevirke on Saturday. PLEASE, if you say you are going to an event, commit and go. If for some reason you can't attend, after saying you will, at lease have the good manners to inform someone you can't make it.

Dannevirke  Youth Programme.  As mentioned previously, Captain Mike has been in discussions to get a Junior programme running. Below are the details as provided today. Saturday, April 25th, Anzac Day. Golf will commence at 12 noon, as we ask members not to play on the morning of Anzac Day. 11.45 am card draw. 12 noon tee off. Best member stableford of the day wins the Waitahora Cup, plus the men play the ladies for a Shield. Aggregate Stableford points. Duty Zane House Gillian. Special Event: We have a guest speaker at 4 pm. All welcome. Coronation Cup Finals Sat 23rd & Sun 24th May; Porongahau has been confirmed as the host for this year's final. Team announcement later. Trundler Shed; The committee are concerned at the continual abuse of this shed. It is supposed to be a locked place to keep clubs secure if you don't want to take them home after each round. Security is consistently compromised as the door is left unlocked and held open with the steel bar while everyone is out playing. Not much security when that happens. Last night's discussion suggested that we cease to provide this service after 1st June. Anyone with concerns etc regarding this move are asked to send a reply to sender email to me, which will be collated and considered at our next meeting. Subscriptions : Bailey reported last night that all members who pay annually have been sent an email invoice. Weekly and monthly payers will be receiving their invoices shortly. If you have a message to increase or decrease your payments, please action as soon as possible. It is very time-consuming allocating these payments, so if you account is in credit and you are asked to stop payments, please do so; likewise, if you are behind with payments, check your balance, divide it by five, and that is what you owe to be clear by 30th September, being the end of our financial year. Any queries, please email dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz , or talk to Patrick, please. A lot of rain this week, so if you are driving a cart, please keep to the tracks. Number 17 fairway is not to be driven on, please use the track to the right and walk across to your ball if you are not at the top of the hill. Clearly, two carts made quite a mess there last Sunday and lost traction on the hill. In short, Don't Go There. Have a great weekend, folks, and we hope to get a good muster for our Anzac Day event. Saturday 18th April; Club day, card draw at 11.15 for 11.30 am tee off. Duty Match Committee, House Stephen. Saturday 18th April; Cape Turnagain 27-hole Strokeplay Tournament. 8 am tea, 8.30 am tee off. Round 3 of the Ruahine Rosebowl. Members, our attendance at the first 2 Rosebowl events have been disappointing at best. If you can get to the coast Saturday, please do so. Champ 1, Dannevirke v Napier at Napier 11 am, Champ 3 Dannevirke V Hawkes Bay at Waipawa 10 am, Handicap 2 play at Maraenui and Handicap 3 at Hawkes Bay. Best of luck, guys. Final hopes are still there for 2 of the teams. Coronation Cup Result: With 6 points and 28 wins, Dannevirke are into the finals alongside Pongaroa, Napier, and Hawkes Bay Golf. A big shout-out to Takapau for hosting everyone. The course was looking sharp, and the hospitality was brilliant. Thanks to our members who caddied and were there to support the team all weekend. Three wins, Richie Stephenson, Jacob Stephenson, Raniera Hauiti, and Bryan Burt. 2, 1/2 wins Amrit Prasad, Timmy Bell, John Garnett, Harley Hauiti, and Tewai Hauiti . Finals weekend is 23rd & 24th May in Zone 3. (Course yet to be confirmed). Great effort team. Bring on the finals. Saturday 25th April; Anzac Day. 12 noon tee off. Waitahora Cup for the players with the most Stableford points. Men v Ladies Shield on aggregate stableford. As was mentioned at the Annual General Meeting, we ask members to please refrain from playing prior to midday, as a mark of respect to our fallen soldiers. Again, if you can get to Herbertville on Saturday, please do, as you will be well looked after. Best wishes to members playing pennants on Sunday. Have a great weekend. All four teams travel for this round. Handicap 2 & 3 still have a chance of making the finals! Summer Cup; Amrit and I did battle last Saturday. Finally, I have my name on a club trophy. Great match, thanks, Amrit. Sisters Club, Queen's Birthday in Patea; S orry for missing a number of people at the proposed meeting a couple of weeks ago, I assumed it would be a normal Saturday and turned up at 5 pm to discover only a small number of people played that day, and most of those that did had gone home. I’m at golf this Saturday, so we’ll have a meeting following the prize giving. From my informal enquiries, it looks like we’ll have a group of about 24 going to Patea. I’ve booked accommodation at the Kerry Lane motel in Hawera. I’m currently looking at transport options. The most likely is a couple of vans. We will then require a couple of drivers for Saturday and Sunday. Regards Stephen Best wishes to our Coronation Cup team at Takapau, let's hope the cyclone heads out east and gives us a miss. For those turned off by the weather, there is always the Masters at Augusta to watch from the dry comfort of your lounge chair. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
