golf clubs on ground

Friday 13th September;  Firms day at Cape Turnagain. 11am Cup of Tea, 12 noon tee off;

Saturday 14th September;   Kitt, Kerr, Hape Simpson Foursomes. For the newer members, this competition is alternate shots, with the 2 handicaps added and divided by 2. You play a net round, and at the end the best net wins Kitt, etc etc If you haven't organised a partner, ask the Match committee duty persons to make up a pairing. Duty is Mark & Joe, House Dipak

Saturday 28th September;  Visit from Manawatu Golf Club. We believe they have a bus with 40 players coming. It would be nice to have as many from Dannevirke to host our guests

Coring;  Our staff and helpers cored our greens and tees on Tuesday. Our thanks to all who assisted. Kierane informed me the course will be prepared and ready for play from 11am tomorrow. Please let common sense prevail around areas that have been affected by coring or machinery tracks. The rules of Golf cover such situations.

Congratulations;  Speaking of Kierane, Our heartiest congratulations to Kierane, Emma, and older brother Ario, on the arrival of their twin daughters and sisters Stella and Brielle.  All is well with mother, father and daughters. Kierane will be taking some time off when the twins get to come home, with plans and people in place to keep our course groomed.

Rosebowl;  The Ruahine Rosebowl competition was completed last weekend at the Takapau 30 Hole Tournament, with Pongaroa being the 2024 winners. Can I say, there was a little bit of disappointment and embarrassment shown to our captain Mike and Zane at the weekend. Many of you said you were going to this event, and Mike phoned through to secure numbers for our members, then on Saturday Zane waiting patiently at the Mangatera Hotel at 7am, to take a ute load of players up. Only thing is, not one turned up!, so while we needed at least three, we only had two players from Dannevirke. The final blow being, at least 6 of you played at Dannevirke on Saturday. PLEASE, if you say you are going to an event, commit and go. If for some reason you can't attend, after saying you will, at lease have the good manners to inform someone you can't make it.

Saturday June 14th; Wiffin Cup Round 2 matchplay. Duty, Match Bernie, House Basil A subtle reminder from our captains, that some round 1 Wiffin Cup matches are still outstanding. Please get these completed as soon as possible. Please let the person waiting to play the winner know what is happening, so they are aware. Sattrup & Brannigan; The draw is up in the club house. The weather was not that great last Saturday for first round matches, but again please keep in contact with your opponents, and get these games played before round 2 on June 28th. Given we are now in winter conditions, please use metal tracks etc where possible, especially if you are in a cart or on a bike. Skid marks take forever to grow grass in the winter, and your fellow golfers won't be happy playing off the bare dirt. Not a lot to report tonight, so I'll sign off. Congratulation to Amrit Prasad and Timmy Bell for 3 wins each, with Eru Hauiti 2.5 wins. Over the two weekends of zone play and finals, Amrit was unbeaten on 6 wins, as was Eru with 5.5 wins. A great effort from all, well done. Greenwood Cup; With Pennants and Coronation Cup now completed, our next Hawkes Bay competition is Greenwood Cup in October / November. Always looking for members wishing to be considered for this team. The dates being October 11th & 12th ( 3 rounds at Waipukurau), November 15th & 16th (4 rounds at Hastings GC). Any member wanting further information on this competition can contact Captains Zane & Peter, Clay myself or Patrick in his shop. Greenwood is a team of 10, playing in a competition of 8 teams, with Championship match play (off the stick). A great competition to aspire too. Green Keeper Comments; Two things for this week please. The staff have done some turf repairs by the bunker on number 6, and by the steps on number 13. The are marked GUR, so please don't play off or walk on these areas. There is a new sign on number 17, as regards the track, please observe and comply. Thanks . Being a long weekend, we have members heading of in different directions for tournaments, in Rarangi, Taumaranui, and Onga Onga and others. Wishing you all the best of luck in your various competitions. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Dannevirke South School is having a major reunion, and as such we have four groups of 4 playing nine holes at 9am. Please extend a warm welcome to our visitors. Saturday 31st / Sunday 1st June; Sisters Club Inter Club being played at Rarangi (Blenheim) We have a team of 20 heading south for this annual event, which is being played for about the 53rd time? Pine Trees; The Club has 6 plantations of pines which have been there for many years. The original intention being to plant these for harvest, and time has come for this process to begin. In the very near future, there will be felling carried out in three areas. Firstly some pines that need to come down at the back of number 11 green, by the railway, the plantation to the right of 13 (Lands End,) and a couple of pines to the left of number 13, which shade the green during winter. This work will have minimal effect on fairways, as the trees at the back of 11 will be trucked out via the farm, the lands end plantation will go out through the former Ministry of Works yard, the ones to the left of Lands end will go out along the river bank again to the MOW yard. The question of replanting, particularly the right of Lands End will be considered and proposals put to the December 2025 Annual General Meeting. All tree felling will be done early in the morning, and only trimming and log removal will carry on during the day. Please, If any area is fenced off, and No Entry signs are in place, then they are there for yours and the contractors safety. Such areas are not a recommendation, they are a rule, and any members seen entering these areas will be severely spoken too ! Another big weekend for Dannevirke mens golf. On behalf of our members, best wishes to our Coronation Cup team. Good Golfing,👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
