Saturday 18th June; Visit from 27 members of the GHB Eagles Golfing Society, 11am card draw. Wiffin Cup Matchplay Morning tee from 10am

Sunday 19th June; Waipawa 27 Hole Strokeplay Tournament

Happy Birthday Dannevirke Golf Club; 120 years old 18th June 2022. A little bit of history I stumbled across from Centennial notes;

18-06-1902 Club formed, played on Mr W F Knights property 1902 - 1913

1914. Moved to the Stevens land as Mr Knight wanted to plough his.

1920  395 acres purchased for 25 pounds an acre from a Mr Stevens, where the club had played since 1914. The 395 acres is the current course and surrounding farm lease land.

Tram Track; The old track at the foot of the lands end tee was the line of the tramway running from the metal pit (now the TDC forest plantation) The purpose of the tramway was to build the embankment to the railway bridge crossing the Tamaki River. This piece of land is still in a separate title. The metal pit became vested in the Dannevirke Borough Council and was known as the Coronation Reserve, not to be confused with Coronation Park. (Article from M J Q Poole 18th June 2002)

Eagles Golfing Society of NZ Raffle; I have been caught off guard this year, as this raffle is normally sold and drawn in October. This year it closes on Monday 20th June. The unsold tickets will be going back to the Bay after golf on Saturday. Any member wishing to purchase as book $20, I will have them at work Friday. Remember, this is the raffle where you buy a book and get two golf balls with your purchase. Otherwise Eagles Warren Ridge, Max Charmley, Rodney Henricksen, Stephen Prenter, Johnny Edwards Robyn Daily and myself will have them at golf on Saturday. Happy to take email orders, which I can fill in your name on a book, and you can owe me the $20. (brave ah)

Please may the weather gods come through this week end and give us some decent weather for golfing. Kind of over the wind and rain.

Good Golfing

(Notebook on the bar on competition days) The raffle will be drawn during the prize giving for the Marae Tournament. Regards Stephen. Carts: We have already had two disappointing incidents this year. Our new carts are there to use and be respected. Last Sunday (unknown driver) obviously drove up to another cart on number 14 tee and tried to push it, leaving black tyre marks and holes in the lime track. Just dumb! Appreciate we have visitors and members using our carts, but any such behaviour will be dealt to by the Management Committee. "Use them, don't abuse them" Greenstaff; With Kierane being a fully qualified Green Keeper, the committee and he decided it was a good time to start another Apprentice. The role was advertised before Christmas, and so it is good to welcome Liam Making to our Club. Great to have you on board, and all the best for the next few years, gaining a qualification. Kierane Given the amount of water we now have available, our greens are being well watered. Being softer than normal, please be aware of pitch marks on the Greens. They may not always be yours, but please make a habit of repairing any you see. Thanks That wraps up this week. Have a good weekend, and hopefully the weather is not as bad as predicted. Good Golfing,๐Ÿ‘ Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Great opportunity to try out the game, introduce family and friends to golf, or hone a few new skills over 9 holes. The weather gods have been much kinder to us, than in some areas of the country. With approximately 112 mils of rain this month, the course has gone from a dry, plenty of run summer track to a lush green autumn track in a couple of weeks. Plenty of visitors keeping Pat busy, so come on out and enjoy our great course. See you soon. Good Golfing๐Ÿ‘ Bryan Burt Club Scribe
