Kierane Ebbett & AG ; Grumble grumble, there are far too many pitch marks and divots not being repaired; If you land a ball on the green from any more than a few meters out, you will have a pitch mark to repair. Done properly, you need a two prong pitch repairer. Lift the soil under the hole in the green with the repairer. Lift it enough, then pat down with your putter to make the surface flat for the next ball to run across smoothly. Likewise if you take out a divot playing an iron into the green, please go and pick up the grass and soil strip that flew ahead of you, take it back, lay it into the divot and tap it down with the back of an iron, to level the area, and maybe the grass will take and grow again. We can all blame the green fee players, but if we all learn and practice best practice, then when we are green fee players elsewhere, we will respect that course like our own. Don't be afraid to call out players in your group who are walking off without carrying out the necessary repairs. One last comment on course damage, there has been the odd gouge in greens from players missing a put and forcefully smashing their putter into the green surface. You can do that on your lawn at home, but don't ever do it on a golf green. Our greens staff spend a lot of their time perfecting the greens surface, so please respect their work by leaving the green undamaged.
Enough of the lectures, commonly known as Golf Etiquette. If in doubt, ask an experienced golfer or Match Committee member to explain.
