Twilight Golf;  Thursday 28th March will see twilight golf conclude for the 2024 season. A BBQ will follow golf. Tee off no later than 5.30pm please

Coronation Cup;  With the new zones in place, we will be hosting on the weekend of Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April. The zone clubs for the next 4 years are Dannevirke, Cape Turnagain, Takapau, and Porangahau.  Team to be anounced this weekend, and in next weeks W.O. One change in format is that we will play two rounds Saturday and one Sunday. Reason being, if the weather turns bad Saturday, we have the option of playing 27 holes, then completing the second round Sunday morning before the third round. Not necessarily ideal, but an option all the same.

DANNEVIRKE HIGH SCHOOL AMBROSE GOLF TOURNAMENT, 2024

This year we had 41 teams (123 players) participating in our annual fundraiser golf tournament. The hole-in-one for $20,000 was not struct. Hopefully someone is lucky next year. This helped us raise about $4500.00 on the day apart from the donations from the sponsors.

A special thanks to all the sponsors who sponsored a hole, gave us prizes and contributed in one way or the other to make this a success. A big thanks to Scanpower Limited for being the main sponsor and Dannevirke Golf Club for letting us use the golf course free of charge. Thanks, Mike Matthews, for helping on the day.

I would like to thank all those people who played in this tournament and all the teachers and students/prefects who helped to make this tournament a huge success.

(Amrit Prasad – teacher in-charge for golf)

Membership cards and bag tags,   Miranda will be in the shop Saturday between 10am and 12 noon to distribute membership envelopes. Anyone wanting to pay their sub while Miranda is on site, are welcome to do so.

Club is not a bank;  If possible can members please arrive at the Golf Club with cash for the competition. It has become very time consuming processing cash outs and eftpos payments for shop sales etc while trying to sort the groups for the day. For obvious reasons we don't hold much cash, so getting it from town before arrival will assist the Match Committee starters.

Another weekend with members spread far and wide to compete in competition golf, either at Pennants or the Pongaora Strokeplay Tournament. Good luck to you all, and travel safely.

Saturday, April 25th, Anzac Day. Golf will commence at 12 noon, as we ask members not to play on the morning of Anzac Day. 11.45 am card draw. 12 noon tee off. Best member stableford of the day wins the Waitahora Cup, plus the men play the ladies for a Shield. Aggregate Stableford points. Duty Zane House Gillian. Special Event: We have a guest speaker at 4 pm. All welcome. Coronation Cup Finals Sat 23rd & Sun 24th May; Porongahau has been confirmed as the host for this year's final. Team announcement later. Trundler Shed; The committee are concerned at the continual abuse of this shed. It is supposed to be a locked place to keep clubs secure if you don't want to take them home after each round. Security is consistently compromised as the door is left unlocked and held open with the steel bar while everyone is out playing. Not much security when that happens. Last night's discussion suggested that we cease to provide this service after 1st June. Anyone with concerns etc regarding this move are asked to send a reply to sender email to me, which will be collated and considered at our next meeting. Subscriptions : Bailey reported last night that all members who pay annually have been sent an email invoice. Weekly and monthly payers will be receiving their invoices shortly. If you have a message to increase or decrease your payments, please action as soon as possible. It is very time-consuming allocating these payments, so if you account is in credit and you are asked to stop payments, please do so; likewise, if you are behind with payments, check your balance, divide it by five, and that is what you owe to be clear by 30th September, being the end of our financial year. Any queries, please email dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz , or talk to Patrick, please. A lot of rain this week, so if you are driving a cart, please keep to the tracks. Number 17 fairway is not to be driven on, please use the track to the right and walk across to your ball if you are not at the top of the hill. Clearly, two carts made quite a mess there last Sunday and lost traction on the hill. In short, Don't Go There. Have a great weekend, folks, and we hope to get a good muster for our Anzac Day event. Final hopes are still there for 2 of the teams. Coronation Cup Result: With 6 points and 28 wins, Dannevirke are into the finals alongside Pongaroa, Napier, and Hawkes Bay Golf. A big shout-out to Takapau for hosting everyone. The course was looking sharp, and the hospitality was brilliant. Thanks to our members who caddied and were there to support the team all weekend. All four teams travel for this round. Handicap 2 & 3 still have a chance of making the finals! Summer Cup; Amrit and I did battle last Saturday. Finally, I have my name on a club trophy. Great match, thanks, Amrit. Sisters Club, Queen's Birthday in Patea; S orry for missing a number of people at the proposed meeting a couple of weeks ago, I assumed it would be a normal Saturday and turned up at 5 pm to discover only a small number of people played that day, and most of those that did had gone home. I’m at golf this Saturday, so we’ll have a meeting following the prize giving. From my informal enquiries, it looks like we’ll have a group of about 24 going to Patea. I’ve booked accommodation at the Kerry Lane motel in Hawera. I’m currently looking at transport options. The most likely is a couple of vans. We will then require a couple of drivers for Saturday and Sunday. Regards Stephen Best wishes to our Coronation Cup team at Takapau, let's hope the cyclone heads out east and gives us a miss. For those turned off by the weather, there is always the Masters at Augusta to watch from the dry comfort of your lounge chair. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe
