Bryan Burt - Club Scribe • July 22, 2021

Saturday 24th July: Card draw 11am  We have three competitions on the go currently, Wiffin Cup, Sattrup & Brannigan, and Presidents Cup. Please keep these matches going when the weather permits.

Last chance to vote; With many members put off by the weather last Saturday, you have a chance this week to cast your vote on the "Tee Off Time" as below. Decision announced after golf Saturday.

"Tee Off Time", Captain Mike has been asked if the Match Committee would consider moving tee time back to 11.30am on Saturdays. This Saturday when you enter the Competition, you will be asked, Do you personally prefer 11am or 11.30 tee off. Please participate with an answer, " it doesn't worry me" is not an option! If you can't be there Saturday and want to participate in the vote, please contact Mike, mikematthews058@gmail.com "

Coming events;

Sunday August 1st; Inter Club v Pahiatua  Mixed field 11am Tee Off following welcoming morning tea.

Saturday August 7th; SHB 27 Hole Strokeplay Tournament (Rosebowl Tournament). Our very own men's Tournament, so a good muster of Dannevirke members would be appreciated. A ladies field is also encouraged. Captain Mike has requested all Greenwood Cup hopefuls participate in this event, as a trial for the 2021 team.

Management Committee; from last night meeting;

Charity Grant; We have received our first grant this year from the Merrylees Hotel Charity for wages amounting too $12000.00. Applications are also in for a replacement Glass washer for the bar, plus one for the replacement of our main tractor. An application for the installation of a card machine at the club will follow.

Our eft-pos system has approval to add a second machine, to be used downstairs, and made available to Green fee players and campers.

Save your change for club days; Miranda reported with the BNZ bank now closed, the only option for banking is going into their machine, (when access is available) . Changing banks was discussed, but who knows when the two remaining banks will withdraw their services. If you can bring your small change and notes to golf instead of $50 notes fresh from the ATM, would be a great help. Options are being looked into.

Down stairs bar; Work is nearly complete in the lower bar. The wall seats are to be put back on the eastern and northern walls,.  The club in indebted to our Vice President Peter Greatbatch and his staff at Greatbatch Builders for the building work carried out over the past few months.  Many others have plied their trade on this project as well, and Scribe will get the information to thank them in this forum in the near future.

Irrigation / water security; The greens committee have meetings coming up with various parties, to put together a plan to sure up our water supply, which is failing us currently.. Kierane and AG provided a written report to the greens committee, which they wish to do monthly, to keep their committee and the Management Committee informed on what has happened on course, and any concerns they foresee

GHB / Poverty Bay Ladies Golf Association AGM; The AGM of our association is to be held next Thursday evening at the Maraenui Golf Club.

That's it tonight folk.  Looking forward to a game Saturday, as I wimped out last week.

Good golfing

On Course Tee Signs: A big shout-out to our tee sponsors for their continued support of our Club. With business changes, we have 5 tee signs available for advertising your business. If any member wishes to take up one of these signs, please contact our Secretary Bailey Harold at dannevirkegolf@xtra.co.nz. Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December. Another call please, for members to consider putting themselves forward for nomination to the various committees. Our thanks to Bailey for her work to date on the new constitution. Every Club in NZ has to update their Constitution before the end of April 2026, so we can continue to apply for Charity funding etc. Golf NZ produced a template, and we are just adding the final touches for our Club. This will need to be adopted at the AGM. At this point, we have not had any major damage on our course with the wind, but today is going to be another windy one. Fingers crossed, we get through unscathed, and the wind settles for a fine weekend with ample opportunity to play some golf. Best wishes to all who are traveling this weekend for tournaments or other golfing adventures. Travel safely and play well. Good Golfing👍 Bryan Burt Club Scribe

Ladies Club Championships; The ladies concluded their Champions on Saturday after being rained, hailed and thundered on the week before. Congratulations , too Margaret Stephenson, (Senior) Sue Burlace (Intermediate) and Kerrie Gundersen (Junior). Runners up being , Angela Farrell, Margaret Treacy and Rainier Arnold. Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3; Conditions at Waipukurau Golf Club were very pleasant for two rounds of golf Saturday and one Sunday. The rough at Waipukurau has for years has been dense clover and still is, which can be deceiving, as the ball looks ok, but the clover can be difficult to hit from. Saturday morning the team played Karamu having a 7 to 3 win, followed in the afternoon with an 8.5 to 1.5 win against Central Hawkes Bay. Sunday morning we came up against the first of the city Clubs Napier, and were defeated 7 to 3. Two matches concluded with draws on the 18th, and 3 finished on the 17th, so it wasn't all bad. The current standings are Hastings first on 6 points with 27.5 games, Onga Onga second also on 6 points and 23 games, Napier third with 4 points and 20 games, with Dannevirke fourth on 4 points and 18.5 games. Looking forward to the final four rounds at Hastings Golf Club on November 15th & 16th . Annual General Meeting; Monday 8th December at 7.30pm. A reminder to Committee chairman and others to have your reports to Gail by next weekend (Labour Weekend) for the Annual Report. With daylight saving now in progress, encourage any friends or relatives that are keen to maybe consider a Summer Subscription.
