Coronation Cup; A very fine week end at Cape Turnagain last week end for the zone play of Coronation Cup. Played between Pongaroa, Cape Turnagain Norsewood and Dannevirke, we finished up with four points, having had team wins against Norsewood and the Cape, Pongaroa also had four points, with wins against ourselves and the Cape, The count back again proved our failing, with 17 individual wins against Pongaroas 23. Norsewood and Cape Turnagain both tied with 2 points, with Norsewood taking our the individual games count back. Our match scores were Dannevirke 8 v Cape 4, Dannevirke 7 v Norsewood 5 and Dannevirke 2 v Pongaroa 10. Best player from Dannevirke was Chappy Maniapoto with two wins and a half. Thankyou to the team for putting up a valiant effort, to Zane our team Captain / manager for getting everything and everyone organised. Caddies and supporters. A big thank you to The Cape Turnagain Golf Club, who as a smaller country club turned on a great couple of days, with their normal very high standard of hospitality.

Sisters Club, Blenheim Queens Birthday weekend;  On Friday 4 June 21 members of the Dannevirke Golf Club will be travelling to Blenheim for the 49th playing of the quadrangular tournament. It’s not too late, there is room for others to join with us, so give me a call. Alternatively there is a meeting of the Sisters Club at the back bar of the Saigon (Tonka’s Turf) at 7 pm on Wednesday 26 May to provide all the details of the trip.

We’re meeting at the Citizens and Services Club at 9 am to catch the 1.30 pm ferry to Picton. We’re staying at the Grove Motor Lodge, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, golf at Rarangi Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday, tee off at 10.30 am, then leaving Picton at 10.45 am on Monday 7 June arriving in Wellington at approx 2 pm. Regards Stephen

Seniors;            A shout out to those who ventured to Takapau today having left the horizontal rain in Dannevirke in search of good golfing weather. We were not disappointed. Fine weather with light winds greeted us. So with 21 players present away we went. However the gods decided that 9 holes was enough golf for the day and the gale force winds arrived. We called it a day. Some good scores were had with 21 points winning followed by a 19 and two at 17.
On Thursday we have 18 golfers from Marton coming over so we are treating this as a normal club day with tee off at 10.00am so a good attendance would be nice. A fine day with light winds and 16 degrees is forecast.

Regards Gus

Request;   This is a very special request. I am trying to find a 45rpm record of Dean Martin singing “Little Old Winedrinker Me”.

If anyone has this record stored away in a cupboard, or packed in a ‘For the Grandchildren’ Treasure Chest, and you

know you will never listen to it any time soon, I would love to have it – firstly because most of the grandchildren out

there have probably never heard of Dean Martin, and secondly it is very likely they would only use it as a Frisbee which

could prove to be rather dangerous – ACC and OSH would not be happy!!!!! I assure you it is going to a very good

home, so here’s hoping someone, somewhere, will be able to help. I can also confirm I’m not and I don’t drink wine.

Please phone or txt 027 233 9933.

Cheers, Gail B.

Our new carts are there to use and be respected. Last Sunday (unknown driver) obviously drove up to another cart on number 14 tee and tried to push it, leaving black tyre marks and holes in the lime track. Just dumb! Appreciate we have visitors and members using our carts, but any such behaviour will be dealt to by the Management Committee. "Use them, don't abuse them" Greenstaff; With Kierane being a fully qualified Green Keeper, the committee and he decided it was a good time to start another Apprentice. The role was advertised before Christmas, and so it is good to welcome Liam Making to our Club. Great to have you on board, and all the best for the next few years, gaining a qualification. Kierane Given the amount of water we now have available, our greens are being well watered. Being softer than normal, please be aware of pitch marks on the Greens. They may not always be yours, but please make a habit of repairing any you see. Thanks That wraps up this week. Have a good weekend, and hopefully the weather is not as bad as predicted. Great opportunity to try out the game, introduce family and friends to golf, or hone a few new skills over 9 holes. The weather gods have been much kinder to us, than in some areas of the country. With approximately 112 mils of rain this month, the course has gone from a dry, plenty of run summer track to a lush green autumn track in a couple of weeks. Plenty of visitors keeping Pat busy, so come on out and enjoy our great course. See you soon. Good Golfing๐Ÿ‘ Bryan Burt Club Scribe
