Saturday 23nd September; Card draw 11am Starters Zane & Bryan Note; with daylight saving starting Sunday night, future tee times will be 11.30am
Members draw; Something new to get members in our clubhouse at 4pm Saturday. This is an electronic draw from all members playing numbers. This week the pool is $120,
Saturday 30th September; Rescheduled Inter Club with Pahiatua at Pahiatua. 11.30am Car pooling will leave our club carpark at 10.30am
Saturday 14th Sunday 15th October; Greenwood Cup Rounds 1-3 at Dannevirke. With 80 players in the field for this event, the course will be closed Saturday, and reopen 12 noon Sunday. History has shown us, if we start earlier than 12 on Sunday, our members complain about how slow the Greenwood players are. If we give them space, that shouldn't be a problem.
Coronation Cup; Last week end we participated in the Zone play for a spot in the finals of this years Coronation Cup. As this was a delayed event, Norsewood were unable to field a team, However, Cape Turnagain, Dannevirke and Pongaroa, played out the zone competition at Pongaroa, in breezy conditions in the morning, and gale force winds for the afternoon round. At the conclusion Dannevirke and Pongaroa tied with 3 match points each, having beaten Cape, and drawing 6 all with Pongaroa. The result then progressed to team matches won, which Pongaroa took out with 17 wins versus our 14.5 . A very good effort from our team, with some members having gone out the week before to play the course for the first time. Players finishing with two wins were Eru Hauiti, Richie Gray, Tony Neilson and myself
Management Committee;
Dannevirke Golf Club wish to express a vote of thanks to Tumu Building Supplies, for donating the BBQ / outdoor table. The table has been placed on the lawn, for use when the downstairs bar is operating
Thank you to the members who donated both time and machinery to complete the coring last week.
12th Fairway; For those who attended last years AGM, there was a discussion around the tree planted on the 12th fairway. The members at the AGM left it to the incoming Greens Committee to make a decision on the new format of the fairway, and if it would stay. Greens Committee Final decision; The tree now marks the right hand side of the fairway heading into the green, meaning all ground to the right of the tree is now mowed as rough. The reason for the decision being, to keep as many as possible second shots from going onto SH2. As we are seeing more growth ,the new layout will be clearer each week.
Information regarding #7 Green and 17th tee. The 7th green you will have observed has an extension on the right hand side. This may or may not be a permanent fix, but the reason for it, is to allow the greens staff to have an area where they can put a hole during a wet season, as we have just had. The 7th green was possibly the wettest during this last winter. The staff are discussing with the Green Committee, how they would like to fix the problem permanently, but that idea is still just that, an idea which would come at a cost. The 17th tee was one of the smallest tee blocks on the course, and with the roll down front, tee placement was limited. The addition of the tyre wall has added a substantial flat area in all directions for tee placement.
Lost Property. A small gold dress or wedding ring (fits my little finger) has been handed in. It was found on the men's second tee a couple of weeks back. I currently have the ring, so if its yours please get in contact.
Not sure about the forecast for the week end, but if the weather allows, come on out, and enjoy our course.
